'SOLD OUT' Concert tickets

Options
I recently have spent hours sitting on the phone trying to get tickets for the more popular gigs that have come up recently. 2 hours trying for REM, 2 attempting to get U2 tickets, and gave up after half an hour this morning trying to see Cream's reunion gig.

My only option now seems to be paying through the nose on Ebay or similar to go.

Does anyone have any great tips to either:

a) get on the 'phone before the rest of the UK, or
b) get reasonably-priced tickets now the concerts are sold out?

Any tips would be cool

register with the bands official sites and you may get a pre sale option, I'm registered with u2's site and received an e-mail direct from them advising me of the pre sale codes being given to fully paid subscribers, had I not of been registered with them I probably would of found out too late, I know they've come underfire for this but £21 extra is small potatos compaired with e-bay prices and it also allows downloads shop discount ect ;)

I think REM are also headlining some of the summer festivals this year

I am subscribed to ticketmaster email which comes out each week usually on a Friday. I got a 2 day advantage on REM tickets, managed to order 4 for the Manchester gig in June, there was no limit on number as far as I was aware. I know what you mean about selling out quickly, I have had to buy on ebay previously.

Try www.ticketmaster.co.uk good luck with your search....

  • Don't bother with phoning. Use the internet for tickets every time. I've never failed to get tickets online (even though most of the major websites - ticketmaster, wayahead etc - frequently crash, it's the best way of doing it.)

Regarding E-bay: I heard today on Radio 2 about tickets for Cream (Clapton et al) were sold out and then changing hands on E-bay for £600 a pair.

    They then talked about how you avoid getting ripped-off on E-bay and the best suggestion to me was to question the vendor/rip-off merchant* regarding the tickets and ask;
    • Where will you be seating
    • Ticket number etc.
Mention was made of an organisation called S.T.A.R. (can't remember what it stands for), but it is a ticket sellers equivalent of ABTA or ATOL.

This site is against ticket touts and will allow users to purchase tickets at face value if a seller has them to sell. Relys on goodwill of sellers offering spare tickets. Popular tickets are like golddust though.

Queued up at Plymouth Pavillions on the morning that the Green Day tickets went on sale (along with hundreds of other hopefuls) and my mate stayed home and phoned the box office constantly and we still didn't get tickets. Had to buy them from Ebay at 3 times the cover price, so I know how annoying that can be.

Its especially annoying when I actually live in the same city as the venue, make the effort to get there nice and early and get turned away at the door because all the tickets have been sold to muppets who live hundreds of miles away and have no intention of attending, who have bought the tickets over the net to sell them on Ebay for a quick buck. These people make me sick.

Good luck on your hunt CaptainDan. Sorry for the vent.

    Scalpers Be Warned

Our thanks to many U2.Com subscribers who have sent us details of scalpers selling 'Vertigo' tour tickets - we are pursuing the leads you have mailed us.

Last week many U2 fans got in touch with us to complain about ticket touts offering tickets for the 'Vertigo 2005 Tour' at extortionate prices.

You have sent us in many useful online links and other information and a whole raft of ticket offers have already been taken down from online auction sites.

    More action will follow.

Some of these touts have posed as genuine U2 fans, taken out a subscription and bought tickets in the presale only to readvertise them for huge sums.

Please be aware that anyone advertising tickets online does not have them in their possession yet - technology is helping us connect scalpers' offers with the original purchase of tickets.

When we identify rogue U2.Com subscribers as the source of sold-on tickets we are taking action to cancel the sale of those tickets and to redistribute those tickets to subscribers who have yet to get tickets.

Please also note the following clause in our terms of subscription to U2.Com.
"We reserve the right to block access to or cancel a ticket order of any user that we believe, in our sole and absolute discretion: (i) is or is associated with any ticket broker or scalper, (ii) is utilizing automated means to process or place ticket orders, or (iii) whose ticket order exceeds the stated limit."

If you have further information on scalpers and touts exploiting the tour, please let us know.

The most annoying ones of all are those that get the tickets for free off of promoters and then sell them on Ebay. Last year there were loads of Glastonbury ones on there and for all Michael Eavis's gesticulating about proof of identity for tickets, it was all rubbish. The checks were minimal.
