in Cutting tax
Hi all,
I'm one of those lucky !!!!!!s who gets to work 100% from home (as stated in my work contract) and because I'm greedy, I've decided that is not enough and would like to know if anyone knows about possible 'tax breaks' regarding this.
From what I have read in various places, there appears to be a 'standard' £3 a week for costs involved with a dedicated room, does this include electricity, heating and various 'rates' like council tax?
Also, what about telephone and internet costs? While I don't foresee massive telephone costs because I have an 'unlimited' calls plan, I do need to have access to the internet the whole time I am working (part of the job)
I also need to provide my own computer hardware and software, without which I cannot perform my duties, so would this cost be claimable?
If any, or all (I'm a hopeful chap) of these are likely to be tax claims, how does one go about this as a PAYE employee? Do I need to inform the tax office, or do I need to inform my employer of my wish to claim these?
All and any advice is, providing on topic, is welcome.

It's not greedy to want to claim all the tax relief you are due - its Moneysaving.
Yes, there is a £3pw tax allowance for the use of your home as an office and you can claim the business proportion of internet and phone calls. For hardware, you can claim capital allowances, again limited to the business use of these items. You claim by writing to your tax office, but they may want to know why items like the computer are not provided by the employer if they are essential to the job.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0
