YouTube Partnership Programme - Making money from YouTube videos

I have a few videos on YouTube and I have received the following email and was wondering if any other members have had the same, if so, is it worth doing?

Dear *********,

Your video ********* might be eligible for the YouTube Partnership Program, which allows you to make money from playbacks of your video.
Making money from your video is easy. Here's how it works: First sign into your YouTube account. Then, review and complete the steps outlined

If your video is approved, we'll start placing ads next to the video video and pay you a share of the revenue as long as you meet the program requirements.
We look forward to adding your video to the YouTube Partnership Program. Thanks and good luck!

It says I have to open a Google Adsense account, whatever that is to receive the money into.

I have seen a few YouTube vids with adverts on and was wondering why they were there.

I don't want to forgo a money making opportunity but I don't want to sign up to something that could be dodgy.

google adsense account is fine to open you need to earn £60 before you cash out

Thanks for the info on the cashing out bit.

I don't know how much they pay you per click through on the ads on your videos but I would imagine it would take a while to build up £60.

My husbands cousin was approached and signed up. Last I heard he was making a couple of hundred pounds a month. He is a student who does impressions and wants to go to drama school, he has had over 3 million hits on his youtube channel which he started for fun on his webcam. He was really surprised when the first cheque came.

Also, once you're signed up let us know so we can have a look on one of your clips and we can all click on an ad for you.

how many videos does he have online and how many views do you need to get hundreds a month??

Thanks very much, I think I will have a go then, suppose I have nothing to lose.

I also received the same email but never applied to the YouTube Partnership program. After reading your post I am considering it again.

Yes, I applied last night but it does say it can take 2 weeks before you know if you have been acccepted or not.

I'm not sure how many people have to view your video before it gets considered, this one was over 18,000 which isn't a lot by YouTube standards.

I had a go at keeping fancy goldfish 4 years ago, it was a way of taking my mind off our 12 year old Lhasa Apso who we had to have put to sleep.

A quite boring video really but it seems that a lot of people from overseas like it.

I'm not sure if I am allowed to put a link to it here but if you type in Hand feeding our fancy goldfish then you will find it.
