How to mention open to other vacancies?

This might be a bit of a silly question.

A job has come up which I would like to apply for and is for a brand new hotel opening up this year (so therefore there are quite a few vacancies on offer). I have a degree and some experience relating to the job that I am applying for, however, I don't know if this will be enough.

I was thinking of including on my covering letter that I would be open to other possible vacancies within the hotel should any arise that my skills/experience suit.

Do you think this is ok? Or will it look like I'm not really interested in the job that's actually advertised? Also how should I go about wording it?

My personal view is stick with the vacancy that you are applying for. A good catch all at the end of the covering letter might be "I hope to be invited to discuss how I can make a difference at "name of company". That might cover your dilema without being explicit. Hope this helps. Good Luck

Yes wheels1 has good advice, aim for the position you most want and increase their enthusiasm for meeting you to discuss how you can help them.

I'm in a similar situation. A new major retail store is opening up just down the road from me and so I'm writing to them to enquire over jobs (they havent advertised yet, but I remember from past experience if I get in their early it puts me in good books).

BUT I've worked in retail as a cashier / admin assistant / customer adviser for 8 years and during this time I've ran the banking for huge stores and ran the shop floor. But never been given a formal role of managment / supervisor. But you know I wouldn't mind going for it!! Plus my old boss has told me I'd be good at it.

Do I write an enquire for base range cashier / advisor role and then maybe mention in the interview I'd be interested in training and progressing? Or do I enquire over a managment position?

Hmmmm, I think I disagree. I see no harm in saying something along the lines of:

"Although I am applying for the position of Blah, I appreciate that you are currently recruiting for many roles and, should you consider my experience and skills to be more relevant to another post then I would be happy to discuss this further. I am keen to work for [name of company] and am completely flexible as to specific role".

That needs a bit of wordsmithing, phrase it in your style of writing, but certainly if an application containing that landed on my desk it wouldn't work against the applicant.

    Good luck.

Although if they tell you to re-apply for each new job they advertise, that's what you've got to do, and you MUST tailor your application to each individual job. Nothing worse than identical forms being submitted for very different jobs ...
