Solicitor Requests Proof of Deposit

Hello
My father is gifting me a deposit for the house I am buying and the solicitor wants proof of this for "money laundering reasons". The problem is I can't prove the money as it is coming from my Gran when she sells her house. To complicate things further, it is being paid to my Dad who is then giving it to me.
All this is happening early July, so I'll have the money in plenty of time for the exchange, but if I have to wait until I have the money in my account I'll probably lose the house as I won't be able to start anything until mid-July.
My mortgage broker says to just tell them i'll prove it once I have the offer letter and then just put him off, but won't the solicitor refuse to do anything until he gets that proof.
I've heard about just writing a letter saying that it is a gift not a loan, but if they ask for my Dad to show proof, then he can't either.
Any ideas?

More drama

I'd be hesitant in offering any further advice to this poster, and have my doubts over whether any of this saga is in fact true as each post seems to give another nugget of information. I'm sure the gran having to sell the house before the deposit was available is a new one!0 -
I'm afraid this is the only "drama" I have left now
I don't think I would make up such an intensive story - I would hope that no-one would be that sad.
Anyway, does anyone have any advice to give - rather than self-righteous guff?
I'd like to think that just being up front with the solicitor would be best, but then I don't really trust solicitors
PS - my Gran's house is sold, my Auntie just won't complete until after July cos they are too tight to shell out £90 for a hotel room and want to stay there. Nothing I can do about that.0
