Tax code adjustment? HOw long does it take?

Hello

just a quickie. I rang tax office as they had me on BR rate. I had written to them but no reply. The woman i spoke to said she would amend my code immediately to whatever the tax free allowance is. MY question is how long does this take to filter through to your pay packet? She said she was doing it straightaway but I am still being charged tax at BR. I am a low earner and need my wages - all of them!

Depends on when you get paid....

If you're paid weekly it normally takes about 3 weeks for your employer to receive and amend your code. If you're paid monthly then it'll be on your next monthly pay once the code has been received by the employer. The codes are sent electronially so in the majority of cases your employer will have the code the next working day after it is released from HMRC.
