This has been discussed before - it turns out that the duty is pre-paid by Play.com - but i'd confirm that with them first as things may have changed.

I've had several Maxtors fail on me, and I know others who have had similar problems. They've easily been the most unreliable drives I've ever used.

Mind you, you can find people who will report similar experiences with *any* make of drive!!!

I've only bought one maxtor & it's now a slave in my system as it became too unstable to run the operating system off of.

My primary is a samsung spinpoint & it has been superb, never misses a beat. It's a bit full of movies etc. at the moment so the pc is slowing down (don't forget to leave some space & defragment, kids mmmkay?)

FWIW I've only ever had one Samsung, and it was the one that failed most quickly on me. Started making a high pitched whine if I remember correctly!!!

I'm looking for a 1000GB Hard Drive, External or Internal. Preferably a branded one with a good reputation.

I already have a 3.5 inch external case, so an internal would be fine!

Anyone got anything?
