joint account whats the best way to

I have joint account with my hubby need to take my name off it before i make myself bankrupt. Do we have to go into the branch to do this? how long does it take for it to go through? can we just phone or write a letter. Really cant face any one at the minute as im really struggling . thanks

You will need to go into the branch together to do it. You don't have to tell them why you want your name taken off.

Does the account have an OD on it that you are in? If so they will not allow you to take your name off.

It depends on the bank - you might be able to do it by both going into the branch and signing some bits but you'll probably have to close the account altogether and your husband open a new one. You will definitely both have to sign though.

Just say that you don't need a joint account - they probably won't ask.
