I saw one of these today in Manchester Fort TK Maxx at £29.99 it was a ballerina on a beige background.

I did see the same one yesterday on the site already cited for similar money.

It was okay but I was under no impression I was buying a piece of 'artwork' as it said on it 'created with' which made it sound like a reproduction/print of the original.

Wouldn't have bothered me at that price but it was a bit too big for my ensuite although the colours and theme were right.
    GC Jan £318/£350, Feb £221.84/£300, Mar £200.00/£250 Apr £201.05/£200 May £199.61/£200 June £17.25/£200

Hi I have 2 of these, they are definately acrylic paint on canvas as you can see where the paint has "blobbed" a bit. It even stated on the labels that were on the corners when I bought them that it was hand painted

You can achieve this effect with prints (I walked past some prints today, three identical ones with some dripped paint) and sometimes prints can be hand finished.

I have to agree that they are quite obviously not hand painted originals. If the artist is making over £250 a print, he's not going to sit down and hand paint hundreds for tk maxx to sell for £29.99 is he.

Whoever produced them will have just used his designs and printed them (by machine) in a style that leaves a blobby 'hand painted' finish.

But if you like the designs, it doesn't matter how much they're worth.

This is correct, printing is much more advanced now and they can achieve a 'painted' look from just a printed design of the original. Sadly these are not original and you just pay for what it's worth really.
Envy is the most stupid of vices, for there is no single advantage to be gained from it.:A
  • Bought three of his prints from TK Maxx today. The words from the packaging read "In collaboration with Yorkshire based artists Kris Hardy, The Lighting & Interiors Group have tailored this collection of Exclusive Art. Go to wwwdotlightingandinteriorsdotcodotuk to link to Kris Hardy's website." They look like prints and the words seem to indicate that The Lighting & Interiors Group have commissioned Kris to produce art for them to "tailor", i.e. print. So they are exclusive - to The Lighting & Interiors Group. However, whether prints or not they look good on my wall - but I don't expect them to be bequethed as family heirlooms.... Many thanks for the link to TK.
  • hi everyone, this is kris hardy, thanks for the nice comments about my work.
i just want to stress though, the prints in TKmaxx are NOT originals by me, they are re-productions based on paintings i have done in the past, they are part of a license deal to sell re-productions of some of my work, but NONE are painted by me. All of my originals are signed in the bottom righthand corner by myself, and you will notice none of the TKmaxx work is signed.
i'm afraid those of you who think you have a £300 painting for £30, this is not correct. All of my paintings in John Lewis, Dwell and my own website ARE all painted by me, and signed by me, hence the higher price.
many thanks again for liking my work though, it is nice to hear such nice comments
and if you do want one of my originals, please feel free to contact me through my website
    kind regards
    kris :)
