quick question; i internet bank and do not have hard copies of my statements and probably cannot go back more than a year. Are the bank obliged to do the donkey work? ie go through looking for all my charges? I guess they'll ask me to provide for the 'prosecution'

Hello! You can make a 'Subject Access Request' under the Data Protection Act, for which the bank can charge a maximum of £10 - they have to provide you with the information they hold about you. Therefore they have to provide you with copies of your statements, and then it's up to you to wade through them all and total up the charges. (Hope I'm right here, someone will correct me if not).
There's quite a lot of information on this on the Budgeting and Current Accounts forum - might be worth a look if you're just at the start of the process."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -

Snagglepuss is correct, the bank have to provide you with your statements but you have to go through them to work out your charges. Settle down with a glass (bottle?) of wine, a highlighter pen and get busy.

Here's a link to the letter thats used by most people to get their last 6 years statements. Its near the bottom of the page in the last paragraph as a Word document and as a PDF. Just fill in the parts that require your personal info.

Thanks for the prompt and fantastic replies. One more question if you don't mind.
I am in default with this bank (loan and credit card and overdraft) and matters have moved onto DCAs. Is it the correct time to do this or should I wait until my debts are settled. I'm worried that if I attempt to take them to court over this they may start proceedings over my debt??0
