How can you close a case?

Hello All,

Please can i have some advice, my hubby at the moment pays though the csa for is daughter, he and the mother have come to a private arrangment (Which he has already starting paying) The mother said that she has phoned the csa and the case is now closed, but we haven't had any letters from the csa and we have just noticed that they are still taking payments!!!!!

I now think that the mother was just feeding us a load of lye's, and hasn't even phoned the csa. What steps need to be taken to close an account so we know when she isn't telling the true?

Regards Patterdale2000:mad:

Not sure why he wants to come to a private agreement, carry on paying via the csa, you know where you stand then.

Phone the CSA and ask if the case is closed yourself.

    Sou
  • Even though he pay's the csa aren't very nice to him, which puts pressure on the relationship between the mother and him also she has now moved to southern ireland ( we live in the uk), and part the the private arrangement he they said that he would set up a trust fund ( which is now being paid) and also go over and she his daughter which isn't so cheap when where a family of 5, with the csa taking payments we can't afford to go to ireland all the time.
  • Patterdale, you may want to try posting your second post again, it didn't make much sense.

Obviously your husband needs to stop paying the private arrangement until it is sorted. Otherwise he'll end up paying twice.
  • Thank you playing hardball, The mother of his daughter has moved to Ireland, so we are not able to see his daughter every think week now. So they came up with a private arrangment where he pay's into a trust fund and we would go over and see her about 5 times a year. (being a family of 5 this works out to be very expensive) With the csa taking large payments every month we would not be able to go and see this daughter 5 times a year, But with the new arrangment we can. What steps have to be taken to close the case with the case. The mother said that she has phoned then but we haven't herd anythink from the csa. When hubby phones they refuse to talk to him about that it. I would like to get it sort asap so we can see his little girl which he misses so much.

    I hope that makes sence.

I don't think the CSA has jurisdiction if the mother & child live in southern Ireland. Anybody know for sure?

Who can apply for maintenance through the CSA?

A parent or person with care or a non-resident parent can ask us to work out child maintenance and set up a payment arrangement.
In some circumstances, we may not be able to accept an application. For example, we may not accept cases where:
    • the parent with care or the children are living abroad, or
    • the non-resident parent lives abroad and does not work for a UK-based employer, the civil service or the armed forces, or

CSA cannot refuse to speak to him about his own case. He needs to ring and advise that his ex has moved to Eire that there is a private arrangement and he has to give contact details for ex so that CSA can speak to her and confirm arrangement. If he has arrears from CSA days then he has to pay them off unless his ex says she does not want to claim them in which case they will close them off. However if she was claimimg benefits then they will not be able to write off and he will have to arrange to pay off
