Advertising Jobs for free?

A friend of mine has asked me to help him post some jobs on the internet.
I was hoping to use gumtree - but they charge for this (£24!)
I googled a bit and found some websites but not sure if they are any good
What free (and popular so that people will actually see the adverts) sites do you recommend?
I could get him a cheap domain and webhosting for less than £24 and advertise on it but then we would have the issue of getting people to actually visit and it showing up on google etc.
TIA

What's about jobcentre? They advertise jobs for free. It takes some hassle on a beginnig, but it's free and official. Go to www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk .0

Are they "proper jobs", or self-employed/biz opps stuff?
If they're proper jobs then reed.co.uk used to let you post them free, otherwise the jobcentreplus.gov.uk site
If they're self-employed/biz opps, then just google for "free classifieds"0 -
The local paper but ive no idea how much it would cost0

Gosh, I've just advertised several jobs on Gumtree Bristol and wasn't charged. Is it a local thing?MoneySavingUser wrote: »A friend of mine has asked me to help him post some jobs on the internet.

Having said that, we get a phenomenal response from Gumtree, so I'd probably be prepared to pay it. Not always from amazingly good applicants, but plenty of interest.
An arm and a leg, IME.The local paper but ive no idea how much it would cost
What line of work is it? I work for a small local charity and my cheap / free advertising strategy is
a) local Voluntary Services Council - I think it's just gone up to £30 per job, and it's excellent VFM in our field as it gets seen by the right sort of applicant
b) Gumtree - as above
c) our own website and our Facebook page
d) emailing a link to our website to all our Facebook friends, local churches, similar employers and voluntary groups
e) if appropriate, local university careers services websites, but only for 'graduate entry' type jobs. I've never looked into the local FE colleges, but perhaps I should for pre-graduate entry type jobs.
When we've got a budget we will also advertise in The Big Issue - again, if you're looking for work in our field, you should be looking at it, so for us it meets our target audience. It's a LOT cheaper than the local paper.
Medium to long term, your friend needs to have a budget for the expenses of recruitment ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
You can advertise jobs for free on People Per Hour. I'm not sure if charges apply if a suitable applicant is found though.0

Thanks
ATM it is for a secretary and maybe a bookkeeper type person later on
@PasturesNew - Reed charge £125
@Savvy_Sue - It seems I was on the London site but just tried another city and that is free! (you only pay if you want something special)0
