Want to marry in a church outside my parish

I am hoping to get married in a lovely church near to the town I was born and were I lived for my first year. I have been told that I need to have a connection with that actual parish and therefore can only marry if you attend the church 2 a month for six months. However I wanted to marry this year, has anyone else got round this in another way?

When you 'near' to the town you born and where you lived for your first year, was this church not in your Parish then???
Could you not go every sunday for 3 months???
We were very lucky because we were told the same but OH lived in a street in the parish for a few years after he was born.:heart2: 'Tied the Knot' Saturday 9th October 2010 :heart2::blushing: Member of Diet Club October 2010 Brides and Grooms :blushing:Starting Weight: 14 stone 10.8lbsCurrent Weight: 13 stone 2lbsTotal loss: 21.8lbs :j0 -
List of what constitutes a connection:

If any of those apply then you can get round the 6 months.Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0 -
Ring the church office and have a word with the vicar / church office."This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0

Sometimes you don't need a connection you just need to go on the churches register. I'm not fully sure how that works so yo would be better speaking with the vicar as I think it may be at their descrection0

My friend is getting married in cornwall in a church there - they never lived there etc. (based in essex) The only thing they had to do was to 'live' in the parish for 10 days and speak with the vicar, not sure how that was different to the 6 months thing. they didnt go to the church either whilst they were there for a service.:heart2:Married my Prince Charming on 15th April 2011 - perfect day!

Many churches have relaxed the rules over the years as they need the fees from weddings and funerals to help pay the bills.
If you have set your heart on a particular church then have a word with the vicar or a church warden, but don't expect a discount especially if the church is a popular one for weddings. If your wedding date is the day before a major church festival and you pay for flower arrangements in the building then that could help persuade the vicar. Money talks.;)
Good luck.Never trust a financial institution.

There is no set rules about how much you have to attend to be put on the Churches Roll. It really depends on the vicar and what he considers to be "regular attendance"
We're getting married in our nearest church, only half a mile away, but its not our Parish.. We have to attend church for 6 months to get on the electoral roll so we can be married there as we have no other connection. We both work away at sea and they have been flexible on how often we attend. I have been around 6 times now in the last 9 months and my OH has been twice. We've allowed plenty of time so we can attend as and when we can, rather than feeling we have to drop everything to go each week over 6 months.
I personally feel that to get married in a church, as a minimum you should attend a few services and be part of the community but i can see how for alot of churches with expensive maintenance costs, weddings have become a bit of a cash cow.
I was never really into going to church before, but ive made alot of friends through the church (and they arent all bible preaching oldies!) and its become alot more than just the place we're getting married at.:jProud mummy to a beautiful baby girl born 22/12/11 :j0 -
Hi Yvette. We are also planning to marry outside our parish as the churches where I am arent as nice as the ones back Solihull way where we came from- there is more than one way round it. See, my other halfs parents got married at a lovely church which means we can marry there. You may have connections to some great places so do your homework. Also see this;
I am not allowed to post links unfortunatelybut if you go to a website www. yourchurchwedding .org click on FAQs and look on the list for "I heard you can get married at any church you want to now- is this true'? and go from there.
You will then have a list of criteria. Good luck x0 -
Hi,
Im marrying out of 'area'
Im attending twice a month for 6 months to be 'eligable' but only one of us has to establish the link, we cant share the trips between me and my OH. The vicar is very understanding though and knows its not always practicle so I go when I can :-)
In a way its nice as by the time I get married he will know us a bit better and it becomes more personal.
The vicars seem understanding so id say call up and speak to them. They will let you know if there is a way round it x:heart2: Got Married on 30/4/11 :heart2:

Thanks for all your replies. They have agreed for us to go once a month for eight months but really want to get married in September or October this year. My dad died suddenly in April and don't want to put it off until next year! I will let you know if I manage to arrange it for this year.Apr - Makitia DAB Radio
