Hi Folks,
Anyone ever used Gary McKibbin Preservation? Seems to do damp proofing, wood treatment and cavity wall ties (not preserving people called Gary McKibbin). Just checking to see if he is worth further investigation.
Thanks,
BatCat

I had to get a damp proofing course done in the back of my house as a condition of the mortgage and used Dampcheck/Woodtox. I cannot recommend them enough. Colin (the boss) was a lovely guy and was out helping when needed. We then discovered a rea;;y bad dry rot problem which led to headers and support beams and 6 joists being replaced. Colin was out over the 12th holidays (the rest of the co was closed) to get the job done so my plasterer could start after the hols, they also installed a damp course in the front f my house also.
I was thoroughly impressed by the work they did and would have no problems recommending them.:j Norn Iron Club Member No. 343 :j0 -
Hi Folks,
Thank you for your replies!
Greentea, is your house still OK?
Sparky40, you're right! Woodtox are great folks. We had them do our damp proof course and woodworming before Christmas and they did a great job and were very friendly and reasonable. Unfortunately they don't do wall ties
Thanks,

Sorry, might be a bit late but we used Gary McKibben for wet rot treatment in our house in 2003. Did a very good job and everything is still fine now.0 -
I was told the other day by my mortgage adviser that woodtox went out of business a couple of weeks ago.0

Hi there hope i am not too late to add some advice. I had a bad experience with Gary McKibben Preservation. He did the damp proof course on my house. It is faulty and i have damp only a few years later. He will only visit me if i pay £30 site visit which I refuse to pay as he is the one who has done a faulty damp proof course and i have a certificate which says 20 year gurantee. I cannot get a new company to look at the damp as he says this will make my guarantee invalid. I feel like i don't want to pay him to fix the job as he clearly doesn't do good work. I have had environmental health from belfast city council out and they confirm i have damp but i can only go back to him. Sadly we are at stalemate. Anyone looking to get a damp proof course should check if you have to pay them money to come back and fix this whilst under gurantee.0

We were asked by the Bank to get a damp and timber report for a house we were going to buy. Gary McKibbin told me he did loads of these types of reports- so i went with him. What a mistake! I needed the report asap and he told me for a full week i would be getting it the next day. When it arrived, v late, it was basically a quote for work- and he was very shody in returning keys! Oh and the bank rejected it!
A few months later he sent an invoice, threatening it was late and he would go to court. i paid, only because we didnt want him calling to the house but was just a waste of time and money..BelfastFemale wrote: »Hi there hope i am not too late to add some advice. Just to alert anyone considering getting a damp survey done in Yorkshire that I've just saved at least £600 by using Dryfix Preservation. I'd previously called in a firm offering a "free" survey but, after seeing comments on MSE, I decided to pay for another survey to get an unbiased opinion. The conclusion of the "free" survey was that I had rising damp and an injected damp-proof course was needed which would cost nearly £600 .. or £800 if I had all the walls done!
Dryfix came and did a detailed examination which established that the water was not coming up from the soil and that the wall was DRY! They could easily have reported that the wall needed some expensive treatment but they told me that the only thing I need to do is replace the damaged plaster. What a huge relief that was.
It may seem like a lot of money to pay £72 for a survey but it's better to get a report from someone who isn't trying to sell you something!0
