Morning Allie.. I'm only just getting round to reading this now.

Well done on reducing your debt so far. You cleared about 4,000 in 6 months so clearing the other 8,000, if all goes to plan, should see it all gone in a year!. Hopefully sooner!!! :j

I cant really offer any advice, except to say.. even the smallest things can make a huge difference. Saving small change may seem like (and literally is) pennies, but that can soon mount up. I save all my small change and every couple of weeks i take it to the bank and change it and it all gets shoved into my sons Bank account.. He has a nice little nest egg growing now.

How about making home made cards?.. if you're at all crafty. I tend to make home made stuff all the time. A lot of my friends have all they want or need so when it comes to gifts, i make home~made stuff, which they (say!?) they appreciate more. Its surprising what you can make from an old jar and some pretty ribbons etc and turn it into a really attractive gift.
Home made chocolates are always a big hit too! and cost a fraction of what Mr Thornton charges!!. Home made Jams, chutneys, preserved fruits. The list really is endless.

Busking may be a good one as has been suggested.. you might as well make your Violin earn its keep, eh?.. :rotfl:

Good luck anyway, you can do it!!.. You're not 'alone' anymore.

My little bro has just finished his first year of a music degree, specialising in jazz guitar. He makes a goodly amount from being in a number of bands and also giving lessons. I'm pretty sure he's busked at times too.

Go for it! I love street music and I'm sure I'm not alone!

Thanks GB  hello again too!!

I'm chuffed I've cleared so much but a lot of it was or at least seems easier to clear than the loan i have - original debts also included OD and another CC :( I'd love to be debt free in a year but I think it might take longer to shift the T loan even with a early repayment thingy.

I have a jar on my desk at home with small change in it, think I'll empty and count later today and get it to the bank. Considering the amount of small change in my purse this sounds like a good idea. although I think i might pay it into my own account as i don't have kids yet! it's so lovely that you pay money into your sons account :) a very thoughtful act in my eyes :)

i'm a bit crafty, I do cross stitch and I've tried my hand at christmas cards and stuff (simple designs usually involving cut out card and colourful glitter - it may look like a 3 yr old has made them but my family seemed to like them!) Homemade choccies sound yum - might need to make a double batch when i do them as I'm likely to eat a lot!!! :o

    Thanks GB :D

That's excellent, well done to your little bro, I sometimes wished i'd done music at Uni, I don't regret doing a science degree but being a music student sounds more exotic than being a science geek (like in my case)!

Theres a method in my madness Allie, when he's 18 hopefully he will have enough to stand on his own two feet and stop relying on the 'Bank of Mom!' Just kiddin', hes pretty good actually and saves all his money from Birthdays, Christmas etc so i shouldnt complain!.

I have a pal that does cross~stitch and she is always making things for births, weddings etc, it doesnt generate a lot of income, just maybe a couple of quid over and above her expenses but she finds it therapeutic and the extra does add up and she puts it towards car tax etc.

I do find cross stitch very therapeutic and relaxing, think i will either try and do little bits and bobs for presents/cards etc. and see how much I'll save compared to buying! even if they are just simple designs (flowers, animals etc) then the cards can be used for many purposes - how very MSE of me if I do say so myself!!! :rotfl:

Thanks Mrs-Stressed  i know, they really got me out of a pickle. i owe it to them big time and im very grateful i had the option. My Dad works abroad in India and my mum used to visit a lot for long periods of time so they had boarded up the house for a while as no one was in so i was lucky that my mum came back for a bit as the house was unboarded-up! - they now look at me as the maintenence person who looks after their house when they jet off somewhere!! Suits me fine as it's a roof over my head!

Moving home saved me money but the main save and the reason i could pay off the £2k CC was by selling my car and buying a cheaper one (even though I'd love to drive a ferrari i know it will have to wait!!)! :D
