Hi, I had a brazilian blow dry last week, and I want to make it last as long as possible.
Any ideas as to what shampoos and hair products in general are safe to use?
Many thanks! :j

Did you not get a shampoo and conditioner after you had it done? When I get it done they use coppolla shampoos and conditioners as I believe they have no sulphate in them. The shampoo doesn't lather well so I don't particularly like it. I also use aphogee shampoo and 2 minute keratin reconstructor and these generally help the treatment last for me.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

If you go to makeup alley (us site) and go to the forums, on the haircare forum many people have had this done (its referred to as the BKT), I am sure they will be able to help you more but there are special shampoos and conditioners required which have fewer chemicals to help the treatment stay put.

Thanks, Ali and Jennie!
I was given Model.M shampoo and conditioner, but I don't like them very much, and after just two washes my hair is starting to look frizzy again! (still soft to the touch, though) So any advice on how to keep the effect of the treatment for longer is greatly appreciated. I was not clear if what you should steer clear off is "sodium chloride" (i.e. salt), or "sulphates". I'm even wary of taking baths due to the ingredients in bath foam!0 -
Yes you should steer clear of sodium anything and also sulfates or SLF's which are what make shampoos lather and are an addition to most shampoos.
I have Aveda shampoo which has no sulfates but stacks of sodium- maybe they make one without sodium? worth asking anyhow. TIGI says it has no sulfates (yet there are some sulfates in there...) check the back of the packet as some may not. If the shampo given is making your hair frizzy I'd go back and complain- you paid alot for the treatment and theres no sense in wasting it by having the process stripped from your hair!0 -
had mine done today and was recommended johnsons baby shampoo! Will give it a try and let you know how it goes....0

there are several threads in this forum on the subject with some very specific replies. Just search for Brazilian as a thread starter and you will find them- unfortunately I cannot remember the shampoos as I didnt need to note them, I had a shampoo with the treatment. I hope you are pleased with the results you should find you get three months out of it at the very least - I have just subjected my hair to a week of strong sun and washing every day rather than every other and its still fine.0

I've been really happy with the Organix Hair range, which is also a really good price. Unlike some other sulphate/sodium free products I believe, they lather really nicely and feel lovely on your hair.
Especially love the coconut ones! They're £5.99 for 385ml at Boots, although they do sometimes do for £5 which is a bargain.
I've just bought a Tigi product to try, just because I was curious as to how good they were. If it doesn't work out I'll happily go back to Organix though as I really liked it.
I emailed Tigi to find out which products were sodium and sulphate free, and they said:
"No sodium in the Catwalk Range, S factor smoothing, Diamond dreams, and Colour shampoo.
All products sulphate free."
