wait, ive just realised:borders_dude wrote: »Im not, its clearly been stated on this thread that I originally had put £1.99.
That posting should actually be £199
This is getting confusing now! When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0 -
You put £199, I searched on eBay they were £1.99, I put this as a post, then magically your post turned into £1.99 not £199. Simple. Nothing major, just saying."We are the change that we seek."0

Checked the ikea website and they cost 99p to buy in store.
Not a bad profit for someone!
They must get a few odd looks though going into ikea and buying a hundred pizza cutters...lol
If only I had thought of doing this!
The thing is, this is a bargain if you don't live near an ikea store.
If you bought this item online from ikea you would be charged £7.50 for the postage.
So, total price to buy online from Ikea = £8.49 Total price on ebay £3.48 Less than half price.
If I wanted to go to ikea it would cost me a £6.50 bus trip into the city, then another £2 bus ride across the city to ikea. According to the bus timetables this would be 1.5 hours each way, and I would have 10 minutes to do my shopping and get back to the bus, otherwise it would be a 2 hour wait for the next one.
So, it's either a 5 hour trip and paying £8.50 + 99p, or buy from ebay for £3.48.
I don't really think there is much profit in it for the sellers, not when you add the cost of packaging and ebay fees, and possibly paypal fees too.0 -

There was no magic involved.
An obvious error in my posting was discovered, i amended my posting to make this change. Persons correcting their postings due to misplaced decimal points etc is a common things in forums.
There was no magic involved anywhere. When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0 -
You amended your post and then quoted mine and put I wonder as if was the one that had made the mistake - bit rude don't you think.
Anyone else would have put "oh yes I meant £1.99 my mistake SORRY" !!!!!!!!!0 -
Oh seriously....it's just a decimal point! I'm sure the OP doesn't need to copy people to realise he made a mistake.Student Moneysaver going to Paris next year! Trying to save!

I'm doing a similar thing, not from Ikea though. I saw a branded item on sale @ £4.99 in a supermarket with no e-commerce arm. I know this particular (household item) to be selling elsewhere for £9.99 regularly, so I bought 5 and checked the returns policy (I have 14 days) then listen them on a 7 day eBay Buy-It-Now for £7.49 and I'm making about a £1 on P&P if any of them sell, so best case scenario is I make £17.45 profit. If not I've got to go back to the shop and hand back 5 of an item that no one on earth could ever use more than one of and look silly. But I need that £17.45 so silly or not it had to be worth a go! Nothing to lose but face, and even then I bet I can laugh it off and blame my nan for sending me to the shops for the wrong thing or something.
Someone I know used to do this when Poundland had kids swimming costumes on in November, she'd buy a few (for £1 of course) stash them, then resell at £2.50-£3.50 in spring. So if she bought 10 that's £15-£25 for her. She's got an eye for kids stuff, that happens to be her strongest subject area.
Little quantities like that don't exactly set you up as a small business but when the chips are down they can be worth a go. If you've got a sharp eye for a bargain try your luck at a figure you can afford to lose or at a shop with a good returns policy.
Another friend of mine is making a killing with badly photographed eBay clothing. She'll buy a branded skirt for £5 with a dark and grainy mobile phone camera photo on the listing, especially if it closes when no one is really using eBay. Then shift it with a good clear photo/listing at a time calculated to sell, for sometimes 10 or 20 times what she paid for items. That seems to be higher risk though because often she's making a total loss because the item is in poorer condition that the photo or whatever. You have to REALLY know your fashion and be dedicated to pull that one off.
Sometimes people will knowingly pay more for an item, especially if they can't find it nearer to them or with postage so Ikea is a perfect example, I'm a whole mornings driving from my nearest Ikea, but if I'd set my heart on that £1 item, then paying £3 ish for it (including P&P) is a lot better economy than going to get it for £1 in the shop. So in this way you can sell stuff on eBay at a mark up even to people who know they could be getting it for less in the shop.
Big quantities like 100 of something takes a bit more brass neck and financial risk than I can contribute, but little bits all drip drip drip slowly into the jar marked "for the full and final settlement"."I, on the other hand, am a fully rounded human being with a degree from the university of life, a diploma from the school of hard knocks, and three gold stars from the kindergarten of getting the sh*t kicked out of me." ~ Capt.
