Tesco 50cm Black Cast Iron Fire Pit £14.99 (in store)

I've been after a decent sized fire pit for ages but refused to pay the silly prices for them. Found them last night in Tesco for £14.99. Its black cast iron with scrolled legs and a mesh lid (to prevent sparks landing on people) with handle. Also supplied is tongs to lift the lid and a cast iron grill to sit inside near the bottom so the ash can fall through. This measures 50cm across and about 70cm high. We found it in the BBQ section in a green box marked Small Fire pit with a picture of it on the front. I was a bit sceptical as to how sturdy it was for the money but since they are not online I think this is excess stock they are getting rid of in store. This one was every bit as sturdy as the £60 one I wanted to buy from B&Q.

I called family who live elsewhere in Scotland and they tried there local Tesco and they had them. I asked at customer services and they said all the stores had them just not online.

Hope this helps someone, they are really snazzy and great for burning garden rubbish or keeping cosy in the evening after a BBQ.

Sorry Claribel, that would have been us had I not spotted this. I knew a lot of people would be wanting them so thought I'd share.

Nope, just scrunch up 8 pieces of newspaper, then put on some kindling that you have gathered from woods so dried wood. Then build up with large logs that you have also scavenged from woods! Very MSE and great fire :)

I know it says charcoal or wood but believe me anything paper will burn. I didn't have dry wood to burn so had empty toilet roll tubes and kitchen roll tubes (i raided my recycle bin) and covered them in paper and filled the insides with shredded paper (a load statements etc I wanted rid of) and burned those and they burned great for about 2 hours (had made 10).
