usherette tray

I'm going to see the Rocky Horror show at the end of June and I'm hopping to get dressed up as Trixie the usherette.

Has anybody any ideas how I could make a usherette Tray?? It can't be too heavy and I don't want it to look cheap and tacky (I know that's the point). I thought about using a fruit/veg box but can't think how to cover it and then what would I use to carry it?

I'm wishing I'd just decided to go in my jimjams and heels but have already made my dress. :o

If you use a fruit/veg box you could paint it and just add some decorations to it maybe a shiny fringe type thing to go round it or you could just cover it in foil if you wanted it shiny or decoupage you could use something like a long laptop bag strap to hold it just a couple of ideas but I am sure others will have plenty more.

A cat litter tray? And some straps.

    £1.19 at Wilko: http://www.wilkinsonplus.com/Cat-Litter+Trays/Wilko-Cat-Litter-Tray-Small-Assorted/invt/9532540
    Spray/cover it any colour

Probably similar in price at many other shops if you're not near one of those.

That's such a good idea - I wonder if they do it in other colours??

Plastic tray would be better covered with fabric.. or the Blue Peter favourite.. sticky back plastic

Fringe edging like on sofas would be good round the outside and if you can't find an old bag strap a length of seat belt would be fine.. Or borrow one off a holdall.. they usually have clips on.. couple of holes drilled in plastic tray and clipped on should do.

Sounds like a fabulous rather more original idea.. :D

have been to wilkinsons today and got a grey cat litter tray and then to the habberdasheries and bought white fringe. Found a old strap of a lap top bag which is perfect and all i need now is some glue to stick it all together.
Thankyou all I knew I wouldn't be let down. xxx

  • Really like the cat litter tray idea! I was just looking to buy one... You can get the seat belt material from a scrappy' and pop rivet it to the tray.

Just emailed the aptly named Usherettetrays.com for a price! Might go in competition, haha! ;)
