I am so proud of myself that I had to post this & share!
(mods if you think this should be in green & ethical then please feel free to move it)
I searched the site earlier to find a way to deal with my shredded paper as my local council dont take it in the recycling. I was concerned as a lot of it is from junk mail & so is on that shiny paper and my shredded isnt a cross shredder - it just custs thin strips which isnt the most secure:eek:
Someone suggest making paper logs :money: but the 'tools' to do this seemed expensive (at least £13):(
Remembering I had seen how to make little plant pots for seedlings on the green fingered site - I decided to have a go myself
.
1)
Fold a sheet of newpaper in half

2) Place the 'former' in this case an empty loo roll so it sits very slightly proud of the folded edge & roll up

3)Tuck the end loosely in the former ....(note the little bit of cardboard showing at the open end) you need this to pull the tube back out

4)Tamp down the rolled end with in this case a wooden rolling pin to form a tight seal
5) Remove your cardboard roll

6)Stuff the little pot with your shredded paper

7)And tamp down after each handfull & repeat as needed
8) once it is about 3/4's full twist the open end like a firework cracker to seal. - on to the next one!

Please dont comment on the state of my not vacuumed & very stained carpet lol - I only just realised it would all show so clearly

lol! I won't say anything about the carpet... *grin*
You're very clever for figuring this out. I'm curious to hear how they'll burn.
Have you tried them?0 -
If the weather wasnt so rainy I would try one on the bbq cos its too warm to have a fire - I think as they are so hard they wouldnt work to start a fire IYSWIMI THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0

Hi Psyckipup:j
Yes Green and ethical board would be a better place, so one of us will move it over once it has more views on OS:D
Great job by the way
I made paper sticks for the fire last week, so therapeutic!

Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. when i was little , when mum and dad lived in the cottage ( i was about 4 or 5) i remember so clearly my dad making paper logs in this black mould thingy for the fire. i've got a feeling that has to use slighlty damp paper if i remember correctly. they worked a treat on the fire and were excellent as a firestarter along with kindling or it use along with logs and coal to make the coal and logs go further.0

That looks an excellent idea, I seem to remember dried orange peel is good for starting fires so you couuld pop some in too. Will make some for Sil as he can never start the bar-b-que without vast amounts of expensive chemical firelighters - euch
But with a stock of those in the shed it will be much better - thanks Clearing the junk to travel light

I will get my caravan0 -
I wonder if these would work as a good substitute for those expensive outdoor fire logs/bricks which I've seen occasionally in garden centres which you put onto some kind of open patio container to burn and give some extra warmth on chilly evenings. They cost an arm and a leg so some tightly stuffed loo rolls with shredded newspaper might just work. If somebody tries it, would they please report back0
