Hugely Conflicting Eye Test Results!

  • I had my eyes tested in Feb 06 & again in Aug 06, both eye tests carried out at rayners opticians by 2 different opticians working for Rayners. The last test I had in August, the optician advised me that there hadn't been a significant change in my sight so wouldn't need new glasses unless I fancied a change of frames. So I deceided to go for another pair using a different frame.

I was putting some documents away, and spotted my earlier prescription. I deceided to check it against the newer prescription. To my shock and horror, neither prescription was the same, in fact there was a significant discrepancy between the 2 prescriptions. I won't post all the info, but basically the Feb prescription shows my sight as -13.75 in the right eye & -12.25 in the left eye, the Aug prescription shows my sight as -16.25 in the right eye & -13.50 in the left.

I just can't believe it. The new glasses haven't arrived back from the workshop yet, so I haven't a clue which prescription is correct, so my glasses are going to be invalid to. The glasses themselves are costing me an absolute fortune as it is without out this as well. Please check my previous post regarding the cost ect of my glasses http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/....html?t=244429

I seriously need some advice on where I stand with this and what I should do about it.
  • In fact, I've just double checked the Feb prescription and it dosen't even indicate + or -
  • I had an eye test today at asda optitcians. I too am experiencing this 'shadow' effect like the OP describes just in my left eye and I have prettey much perfect vision in my right. I have reading glasses already for slight long-sightedness in my left eye and now find these are no good.

The optician I saw today was unable to give me a prescription as the tests they carried out gave totally differing results. The automated 'focus' test on one of their machines gave a reading for a very high prescription for astigmatisim (sp?) in my left eye, but when she used the glasses with the removable lenses she got a totally different result. After repeating the tests she took some measurements and told me to come back for another appointment.

    I'm now totally confused!

    Hey devil

If the prescription doesn't have a sign, it is not written to British standards and shouldn't be used to dispense specs. When you get your new specs you will know if they are correct. If not you should be re-tested and new lenses should be made free of charge until you can see properly.

this may or may not help you?
