Does anyone know about sofa's ?

Hi, I have a really good sofa, it cost a lot of money but the rubber slats have gone. I can't afford to replace it right now. I feel as if i'm sitting in a hole :rotfl:
I've googled it and some DIY sites say you could fix it yourself.
I'm scared I might make a mess of it.
Has anyone else tried to fix it themselves or should I leave it
to the experts ?
Any ideas how much it would cost ?
Thanks, Wolfie.

Hi Wolfie,
I used to sell furniture so hope that I can help. When you say rubber slats I presume that you are talking about a wooden frame with stretched rubber straps, like a Parker knoll or Ercol type cottage suite? Replacement straps should be available from your local upholsterer. (Sometimes local markets are worth a try, think of someone who would sell foam inserts etc.) I know you said that it's good sofa but I remember my Dad putting pieces of plywood under the cushions on their Ercol chairs as a temporary measure...they're still there as they realised that they prefered a firmer seat! HTH:)The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

you can buy them on ebay for example.
they are easy enough to fit, although a bit tricky as they are so strong to stretch.Get some gorm.0
