Help please, re barclaycard debt

Hello,

I took out a barclaycard about 5 years ago with a £350 limit.

I was un umployed for a while, missed a few payments etc and moved house 3 times and have not paid anything to it in over 3 years now.

I received a phone call today from a company (have no idea how they got my number and they would not tell me) telling me i owed £360 and it needed paying off in full.

I told him that i am now a single parent of a baby so can not work and am on benefits. I said the very most i would be able to pay was £10 per month, he said that was tottaly unacceptable and that it needs to be cleared in the next year!

I told him that he would have to take me to court then and i would produce a certificate of earnings to prove how much money i have. He told me i already have his costs to add on to my debt and by doing that i would have court costs too.

He has given me till next thursday to come up with 10 % of the debt and with at least £30 a month to pay it off in the next year.

Can anyone advise me?? I am struggling as it is on my benefits!
is officially a GLEEK

Sounds like he is harrassing you. If he phones again, tell him to stop phoning and communicate only by letter. You have made him a fair offer, given your circumstances, and in the event that they do take you to court, your circumstances will be taken into consideration, and the judge will probably accept your offer.
If he rings again, get the name of the company and post it. Somebody will probably know of them and can advise you.

If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

I had harrassment from a company called Mercers acting on behalf of Barclaycard when I got into arrears. They were very rude and on one occassion called me at work. I told them I was at work and I would call them in my lunch hour. They guy said 'tough, if you dont speak with me now I'll see you in court!' so I said fine and he hung up. Then he called work again later that morning twice and was rude. As I went with Payplan I didnt have to deal with them anyway. But very very rude.
