Urgent Health & Saftey Advice Needed

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS ABOUT HEALTH & SAFETY AND NOT ABOUT WHAT WOULD BE A BONUS.......... I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE IT CLEAR THAT A NEW ROOF WOULD BE ACCEPTABLE WHICH OF COURSE WOULD BE AS A MATTER OF COURSE!
Right need some advice again regarding Merlin & Health & Safety Laws please....
To the rear of our house we need 12m2 of pebble dash and sand concrete hacked off for the stitch repair to take place.
The neighbours have refused access to their garden for the scaffolding as they have litterally just had their decking laid and garden landscaped which is understandable.
We are having a 2 lift double bridge with ladder access installed next week but the problem is we have a all glass conservatory which is over 10 years old, and the side access will only just allow the builder to squeeze in the gap between us and the neighbours to try and remove the glass panels.
Surely when hacking off all the rendering this is dangerous as mentioned the conservatory is 99% glass.
Personally I think the whole of the conservatory should be removed to controvene with Health & Saftey Laws - am I correct?

you need to talk to your contractor about what steps they are going to take in preventing your conservatory from being damaged , if they don't remove it then i would think that it would need boarding over . did they not mention this when you asked them to do it ?0
-
Yes there will be some boarding but with the pebble dash coming off in large lumps how can they guarentee protections and once the beads and roof is removing the whole unit will surely get damaged in someway ?
Since this is being done via a insurance claim should all the work not controvene with Health & Safety laws ?0 -
Oh I never asked them to do this is all part of a water damage claim0

All the work should not contravene Health and Safety laws. That is correct.
ps. are you trying to get a new conservatory?0 -
Yes they would.....but in all seriousness I have a phobia about glass and worried sick someone will get injured especially our dogs from splintered glass....
Thank you
and as per the ps. Moi ???[THIS IS NOT THE QUESTION OR THE PRIORTY OF THE MATTER ASKED ABOUT!]

The problem here is your insurance claim only covers you for what you've lost, not what you actually want on a wish list. The advice I give on here is based on my many years in the preservation industry. I choose to remain anonymous, I have no desire to get work from anyone. No one can give 100% accurate advice on a forum if I get it wrong you'll get a sincere apology and that's all:D
Don't like what I have to say? Call me on 0800 KMA;)0 -
Yes I know it does, however this isnt about what I want, personally I would be happy with just the roof replaced which of course it would be - the question is about health and safety and protecting EVERYONE who lives here - and also making sure no corners are cut .... hence the question of health & safety as I dont want to return home with glass all over my property !0
-
No they don't have to remove the entire conservatory, they will have to follow health and safety regs to prevent accidents happen and reduce the likely hood of harm in the event of accident. Such as boarding and netting protecting the glass. If a piece of glass does get broken then they'll have to clean up the mess and reinstate.0

as long as they take reasonable precautions, that should be enough. you cant expect them to cover every single possible event that may or may not take place.
common sense would tell me to keep well clear if they are working topsides and some debris maybe falling down.Get some gorm.0 -
I would of course keep clear and away from the debris whilst they are working - I have enough common sense to do that ta, I am more concerned about the possiblity of splintered glass I thought I had make that point clear ........... all I want to know is my legal rights with regards to health and safety regulations and make sure no corners are cut from the insurance company on my property thats all !!!!!!!!0
