Changing Career

Options
Hi,

Wondered if Somebody could help me,
I am currently in Marketing and have been since I left school at 16, I am now 20 and considering training to become a Nursey Nurse, However I can not afford the training wage of £80-£95 p/w.
Is there anyway I could do this NVQ without coming out of my current vacancy, or lose money?
Help me!
:o

I can't help unfortunately, but I would also be interested if anyone has an answer to the OP's question as I would also like to get an NVQ without leaving my current job.

The best solution for both of you would be to look and see what suitable courses are available at your local college. If practical work is required (which it will be for an NVQ) you'd need to take paid or unpaid leave from your normal job or do something at the weekend.

The problem you have is that an NVQ is just that - a vocational qualification.

In order to obtain NVQ status, you need to show that you are currently doing the job to certain standards and provide evidence for it.

Have you perhaps thought about getting a second job to help fund your studies? Perhaps look at taking a position 4 days per week and then get an evening job? NVQs don't take forever.

I guess it all depends on how much you want the career change? Perhaps you can contact a local nursery and ask for some work experience first - trust me, young children are not always moonlight and roses! The practicalities of working in a nursery can be tough.
