Hi, I've just noticed that M&S have started selling cupcake wedding cakes. There have been lots of good reviews of their traditional wedding cake but have any of you tried the cupcake version? I'm keen on having one instead of a normal wedding cake but wondered how they rate on taste/size etc.

Hi, I haven't seen these so don't know how much they are and what the cupcakes look like but for our wedding "cake" we wanted cupcakes. Originally we planned to make and ice them ourselves but with the weather looking hot we were worried about the buttercream standing up and decided we had better things to do with our time!
So we ordered plain white iced cupcakes from Waitrose and then we decorated them ourselves with jelly beans, love hearts, smarties, sprinkles, glitter, etc etc etc and put them on a tiered cake stand. They were £8.50 for 12 cupcakes and were really delicious. Just an idea to add to the list!
here's some of them:0 -
They look delicious!!!! Well done on the decorating :j
I didn't realise Waitrose also sold them so thats something to have a think about. These are the M&S ones, http://www.marksandspencer.com/View-All-Wedding-Cakes-Food-to-Order-Food-Wine/b/80083031?ie=UTF8&ie=UTF8

im thinking about doing a cup cake wedding cake instead of 3 tiers but im looking into buying a mini cake pan which is £35! so instead of them being cupcakes there mini cakes lol then doing a cutting cake for the top tier.
the only problem is having to ice approx £150 cakes where cupcakes-frosting-only takes me about 1/2 hour! but i fel in love with a pic on a book!

We did think about a cake for cutting but couldn't be bothered in the end; it wasn't that important for us. We cut one of the cupcakes instead with a huge knife for the photo shot!
Oh if we had wanted a cake i would have made one with this:

i have made cakes very similar to this, and if you really want to save money, and time, then use the tiny baked bean tins to make the cakes in. for the £35 you are planning on spending on one cake pan, you could buy 100 tins of beans, and cook all the cakes in one batch (obviously after removing all the baked beans lol)Hi, I've just noticed that M&S have started selling cupcake wedding cakes. ok i havent seen or tasted the M&S ones irl, but tbh for what they are charging i dont think they are worth it. they just look too plain for me, for what most people expect from a cupcake wedding cake. just a flat swirl of icing. most cakes are usually piped with a star nozzle to give some definition to the top, but perhaps minimalistic cupcakes is the in thing this year?

I didn't even think of M&S or Waitrose for wedding cakes i've just been looking on their websites and they are gorgeous. My favourite has got to be the vintage fairytale carousel cake it looks absolutely gorgeous and is perfect for my wedding, i'm so excited as its bang on budget as well and comes with the cake stand, ribbon and pretty little decorations!0

Blondali - please can you tell me how you managed to find that gorgeous looking cake on the Waitrose website? I've had a look on there but seem to end up viewing their normal bakery cakes2013: Interflora Vouchers, Christmas Decorations, NNUK goody bag, thermos flask, macwet gloves0
