New to the site so apologies if this is a noddy question - I haven't been paying much attention to any of my finances for a few years but want to change this!
I completed my 2003-4 return earlier this month online, result being £250 bill.
I guess my salary must be near to the 40% threshhold (note to self: must check this) and that some of my savings' interest attracted the 40% rate.
Just got a letter from the I.R. to say that they don't plan to ask me for further returns. I was a bit surprised to get this. They haven't mentioned anything about my tax code, so I guess I need to check what it has been for 2004-5 and what they give me for 2005-6.
Is there a site with a free tax calculator which mirrors the I.R. system?
I'd like to plug in my details to see what happens when I get my P60 and tax certs ... but I don't want to pay a fee for a commercial service/product.
For info, my situation is fairly simple: single-income company employee, married, two kids, no car/benefits package, some interest from savings, that's it.
Thanks.
