I know this probably isn't in the right place but...

Hello Everyone

I REALLY WANT a career change and am desperate to become a financial advisor.
I know this is the DFW board and perhaps not the best place to post this but you lot ae always really helpful and there seems to be quite a few knowledgeable people on here - plus getting this kind of job will hopefully increase my salary and pay my debt off quicker so I gues it is kind of DFW!

I have looked and applied everywhere i possibly could but cannot find the best avenue to choose. How do i obtain an FPC qualification? i cannot find the answer to this anywhere. is it better to try and study for an FPC off my own back and then apply for a job or to try and find a company that may take me on and put me through the relevant training?

Thank you for any help :)

I'm not sure of the best route. I used to work for a well know building society. It paid a pittance but certainly looked after its staff in other ways - especially with career progression. Perhaps that could be a way of getting in to it?
  • You might want to try the Chartered Insurance Institute.

I would say it would be a lot easier to find a job in financial services and let them train you rather than train yourself and hope for the best. I spent 5 years as a financial adviser and another 3 working in the back office and training before then. Be prepared for a LOT of regulations!!!
  • Thank you neeldown. Are you still an FA now? I'm wondering whether it may be to my advantage if I could find a position as a paraplanner or a bank//building society clerk as mrs mug suggested?

  • No... I left that profession around 5 years ago to move in a different direction.

It would most certainly be a lot easier to train whilst working in financial services. If possible as a paraplanner or admin person in an IFA then you would be at the business end.
