Thanks for this thread sparkysi, it is a real help for those of us who are waiting to go bankrupt (we are currently saving up for the fees).
I have one question, have they sent anyone to your house to look at your belongings? I can't stand the thought of having bailiff type people in my house taking my belongings to sell (not that any of my belongings are really worth anything tho).Sorting my life out to give a better life to my:heartsmil 2 gorgeous boys :heartsmil0 -
Sev's OH here.
Great thread, I went Bankrupt my self on the 7th August. Best thing that I have done (for a while). My interview with the OR lasted 45 minutes and the only change, is that my parents bought my benifical intrest in our car (£1500), so that we could keep it. We are in negative equity with our house and the OR told me to go away with my financial statement of afairs and re-jig the figures.
I hope that you are getting a better nights sleep.Light Bulb Moment 1st January '06-£82,000

No they don't do this! They are only interested in assets that are worth a considerable amount - i.e. antiques, plasma TVs, Van Gogh paintings etc.....
You declare any assets of 'value' on your BR forms - for example fo me I declared my car and my laptop - that's it really. I mentioned in my interview that I have a digital camera & were they interested in that. The Examiner just waved his hand and said no not at all!
You are allowed to keep all your home and personal belongings as long as they are not worth a huge amount of money.

As above, no one has visited or is likely to. I think if your in the unfortunate position of owning a lot of high value assets then you may well have a visit from the OR. It seems a little odd to me, almost as if its based on trust. I guess its based no the principal that if you try and hide something, someone somewhere will know about it and let em know. Everyone round here knows I am bankrupt, this is because of the local notice in the paper, someone read it and took great pleasure in going round telling erveryone, I dunno, some people have nothing better to do. I dont much care as I have nothing to hide, but if your trying to keep the bentley then be careful where you park it

Hey Mike
Only just seen this, so sorry for not responding sooner.
Saw that you had your day in court. Best of luck with the OR meetings, its quite unnerving but not too terrible, I guess yours will just be a lot longer due to the partnership and business issues.
Good attitude on the paper, I couldnt care less either. I find that being totally open about it takes the stigma away, no one gets any pleasure from having a dig about it so they soon forget. I live on a nice council estate in southampton, so there is always a far more interesting drama in the street than a boing bankruptcy LOL.
So far all is fine and dandy. Keep expecting something horrible to happen. Cant believe its this straight forward. We shall wait and see. On the upside I am getting married on the 2nd December, so everything is being concentrated on that. Business is also looking up so should actually be ok for a while.
Only bad thing is we are currently a plague house, we all have colds, coughs or hot and cold running snot. Baby is suffering big time and spent last night in hospital with son as his chest infection brought on a bad asthma attack. All ok now though so hoping for some sleep tonight
Take care and best of luck

Cant believe its been this long and nothing has happened. Well until today that is. The OR wrote to me asking me to complete another SOA so they can apply for early discharge. Its good news in a very weird letter. It starts off by telling you the process, then says I need to complete and return within 14 days, then it goes on to say if I dont respond they will go ahead and apply anyway, but then it says if I dont respond they may not apply. I dunno. I shall just complete it and return, its a damn site easier than trying to make sense of the letter.
Still its good news, I may well be free of the bankrupty, subject to BRO, in a couple of months instead of waiting until the end of August.
Will keep this updated until the end.0 -

good news ...the end of phase one is in sight !!!!
We had one of these about 3 weeks ago which was a bit of a surprise considering we are only 4 months in.
It was followed a day later by a letter stating that all was to be handed to a trustee to administer.......
.......good news or bad??..

Well I got my discharge notice in the post today. As of 1/6/2007 I am no longer a bankrupt, woohoo.
It all went very smotthly for me, cant say I would advise anyone to do it cos its easy, it really isnt, its a tough choice to make but I feel better for it and now I can move on with my life.
I also have the footnote that says the trustee will now be handling it my bankrupt estate, well I dont think it matters as there was nothing in the bankrupt estate so I am pretty sure thats all over and done with now.
Thanks for all the help and advice I have received here, I hope this thread gives a little hope for those on the brink.
