Courting a job.....

Quick question

Have seen an ideal job that is currently advertised to internal candidates only.

I am planning on emailing the public sector organisation asking if possible that they could contact me if the position isn’t filled internally after the deadline as id be very interested in applying.

Firstly is it a bit forward to do this? Should i wait until it appears on the external job page?

Secondly if I do send the email should I attach my current CV to show that I am indeed qualified for the role or will this be seen to be a little too forward and get me some negative criticism from them thinking that I’m maybe trying to steer them into not appointing internally?!?

The method of applying is Company Application form, they don’t accept CV's so sending the CV would be just for them to check it out. They may not even read it so don’t want to jeopardise future application if it goes external.

Any ideas?

No harm in asking to be informed if the job is not filled internally, but dont send your CV as they wont look at it and it will look as if you havn't read the application criteria.

I work in a public sector organisation (not in HR but have been involved in recruitment).

CVs are not accepted, you'll probably find this the same for any public sector organisation. :(

Internal posts are only available to internal candidates (ie those already on payroll), no ifs, no buts. For all you know, the organisation may be making cuts in other areas and there is the possibility of redeploying staff which the organisation is obliged to explore before advertising externally.

If it is not filled internally then they may advertise externally.

Unlikely they would bother contacting you as they would expect people to apply via their form.
Sending a CV is a waste of time (IMHO).

    Wait and see.

How did you come to know about the post anyway?

    ok cheers guys

Website is open to view internal and external positions - i also too work in same kind of public sector organisation as the job is advertised for. I think some places have policy to advertise internally first then externally, although some now will always go externally but welcome internal applications.

Chances are Kate is right in that fact its going internal only is a sign of trying to redeploy staff etc but will send the email asking to be notified if possible, otherwise ill keep checking website to see if it appears!

    thanks all for input
