mortgage retention - time limits?

Options
hiya folks,

I've just had an offer accepted on a property, but the survey recommends the bank keep a £10k retention until some work has been carried out.
I have a big deposit so I think I can just ask to borrow 10k more than I originally planned.

Am I still legally obliged to provide the bank with certificates etc to prove the work has been carried out?
and if so do you know what sort of time limit might be set of getting the work done? I was planning to make these repairs slowly over time.

thanks for any advice you can give me
