Why don't you put the bonus into paying off your Overdraft? It sounds like you don't really NEED a new Mac you just WANT one? It sounds like you are doing a great job so far.
Also in terms of repaying your OD, have you asked your bank to reduce the limit by a set amount each month? Otherwise it feels as though you're never reducing it and can easily slip into it again and spend what you don't have.
I think you could perhaps reduce your grocery spend (the OldStyle board can help with this), and as others have said, your car is costing you a lot, and you'll probably find that you won't use it very much when you settle into London life. Perhaps for the odd weekend away or trip home, but at £137.50 a month - not including the extra cost for petrol, it makes an expensive journey back home. Just keep an eye on it I guess.
As you can probably guess from my name, I live in London too - and it can be expensive, but there also lots of cheap and free things to do. I was in £19,000 of debt and paid it off whilst living in London, so it can be done!
Best of luck, you've certainly come to the right place xx
thanks!
The reason i want a new computer is because working at a laptop is really uncomfy to be honest, and i want to sell it on before the battery really conks out, but it's a case of buy the new one then sell the old one because of all the stuff on here. I want to do freelance design work as well as my illustration stuff that i do for myself, it's just not practical anymorei don't think my bonus will be huge as i only get half as i have only been there for half the time, so doubt it will make a huge difference.
As for the car, sorry it's staying with me til it breaks down and becomes expensive. my neck problems are really bad at the mo too, get bad headaches even if i just have too much in my handbag! It's my hobby too, i have a few friends in a car club and i do little moddy bits n pieces - dont have many hobbys otherwise! this is why i got a pushbike to save on work commute and thing where i dont need a car so that i can have it as my 'treat'
the other of many upsides to my OH moving down properly is that we can do orange wednesday now, hurray!! i nearly had a heart attack when we went to see toy story the other week, cost us over £20 just for the tickets >:( brilliant film tho!! we both love the cinema - would rather go there than a pub, which is saying something!0
