Travelling Allowance and CSA

I am currently receiving CSA under the old system.

My ex husband lives approx 80 miles away and he had out daughter every fortnight. He come to collect her from me and I collect her back from him.

This is getting extremely costly now, due to petrol increases etc and I was wondering what the 'travel allowance' is that I have heard about ut don't understand.

Could we re-apply and he ask for travel allowance to be taken into account and so he is able to do both collection and drop off?

Any advice gratefully received.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

  • I don't think he'd want to do it for what they allow !

They allow 10P per mile, but as it's deducted from the income they assess against it's worth less

let's say he has assessable income of £300 a week and pays 15% he would pay £45 PW

he'd get 160 miles allowed per trip £16, now as this is per trip and it would be a collect and deliver

he'd be able to reduce to £284 (£300-£16) per week then pay 15% of that ie £42.60 so in effect to do all the running about he's actually get £2.40 for 160 miles !
 I've paid the CSA off and stopped them taking payments:beer:
I'm stillowed some arrears by my ex

I was a NRP, now I'm a PWC, partner of a PWC, and parent of a PWC ( and very confused at times )
  • It sounds like you and ex are quite amicable why don't you cease using the CSA and come to an arrangement between yourselfs? Or if you would still rather use them you could still agree to have say £40 a Month less and write to them and ask them to reduce his liability. I would love to not use them but unfortunately my ex partner has another ex who moved away to a secret location so he can't see his Son but is happy to take his money so we have no choice as they would not take into account what he was paying me unless it was done through them

I think they disallow the first £15 a week of any travel expenses also, so you can only claim for any expenses over and above that.
