I have found a few companies that say if you work for them posting ads online you can earn great fortunes! The only ones I've come across though charge you to join first. I am wary of paying a joining fee and wondered are there any out there which are actually reputable??

There are none that are reputable.
When they say they will pay you for posting adds, all you will be doing is posting adds offering to pay people for posting ads.
You pay the joining fee to be told to post ads, and the income you get is the joining fee for others, whom you will then tell to post ads offering work posting ads.0 -

Anything which requires a joining or registration fee and says it can earn you money is probably best avoiding.
Become a detective, model, escort, writer, work from home... there are hundreds of these scammers.0 -
Research more on that company's legitimacy.. researching is important to avoid scam.
Also there should be no registration fees, thats a big no no.Mr. Mulla0
