Advice for smelly dog (wind)

I have a 14wk old boxer. Cute as he is, when lets one off......PHEWW!!! He has Chum puppy pouches and Bakers complete, also for puppies. Being a pup he also likes to have the occasional munch on poo poo from my 2 other dogs, we have 4 acres so cleaning up after them is a difficult job. It mainly smells of dog meat rather than the other. Any advice will be gratefully received...:D

First thing, get him off Bakers, it's junk food, the equivalent of eating McDonalds every day. Chum isn't much better either.
Try switching him to something like Jameswellbeloved, autarky. If you don't want to spend that much then Vitalin puppy complete is good, but very reasonable. You'll probably need to go to a decent sized pet shop for them, most supermarkets don't stock them. Small pet shops can usually order them in.
If you are really strapped for cash then Wagg Puppy is OK, but not great, you can get that in Asda.
If you really want to include some meat, then try Chappie instead of Chum. It's one of the cheapest, but it is fish based rather than meat. Stinks when you open the tin, but it's really good for delicate tums.
Don't just change overnight though, introduce him gradually, adding a little more of the new stuff and less of the old each day until he gets used to it.
I am very jealous though, I love Boxers, they are the cutest puppies! :smileyheaWhen I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0 -

OMG, do dogs/puppies really do that??
I now realise why I don't do pets.

They either do that or they roll in it.
My dog rolled on a walk last night and he absolutely stank! He ended up having a "shower" under the hose in the back garden before he was allowed back in the house.
OP - try different brands of food, but introduce them gradually as people have said.
Charcoal biscuits help - you can buy them at pet shops. If you give him a couple about 3 hours after his meal, it will absorb the gases.

Try adding a spoonful of plain natural yoghurt to each meal. This can help.
I would advise a change of diet too though, probably James Wellbeloved is good as pboae says. Do make sure you introduce any new food very very gradually though, or you and puppy will both suffer!0 -
I agree with Pboae. Change to a more delicate, natural food such as James Wellbeloved or Burns and be careful what sort of meaty treats he has too. Do it very, very gradually or he will have diarrhoea. Petshops sell tablets for flatulence too, but Ive never tried them on my dogs!0

Plain natural yogurt is good because of the good bacteria, but useless if your dog is allergic to milk (which many are). You can get the bacteria in powder form, but I have never tried it.
Go with James Wellbeloved or Burns (Nutro is best IMO but costs more and is only sold at Vets). If you want to add something, which you don't have to, how about plain water or fish (you can buy frozen pet packs of fish, or go fishing, or tins but not in brine).
For treats, go with biscuits. The "moist meaty chews" are kept meaty and long life with lots of chemicals. Bonio are good - as are any of the dry biscuits, or make your own - you can add mint and parsley to "freshen" everything up. There are dog biscuit recipies all over the internet, and probably a few floating around here somewhere!
Enjoy your pup!0 -
I would also recommend changing his food. Have been told my vets that Bakers is the worst food you can feed a dog - full of colouring and addictives. I gave a similar food to my dog for a short while and he was allergic to the colouring (scratching all the time). Also it made him hyper. I would recommend James Wellbeloved - it is pricy but I find it last a lot time. I have a large dog (bigger than a boxer) and a £32 sack lasts him about 6 or so weeks which is not bad at all. A dog doesn't really need meat with this as it's a "complete food" but I must admit I give my dog a very small amount of meat (fresh chicken) - a whole chicken last 3 weeks! The world is over 4 billion years old and yet you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie0

My dog lets on rip and barks at the same time! Then looks in disgust at his bum and gets up and walks to the othger side of the room leaving the smell behind him!!!:D :rotfl:0
