at the moment my son is on a new deal , where he is working for free somewhere for a given time (3 months), but 5 weeks into it, he is going on holiday for a month. what happens to his claim ?

He can't claim JSA whilst on holiday abroad; he'll have to sign off and do a rapid reclaim when he returns.0

As stated he will have to sign off and do a rapid reclaim.
If its 4 weeks he will go back to where he was on the stages and will have to do new deal again.
