Is there a "greener" way to fly?

Hi all,
I'm looking to pick some brains really, does anyone know of an airline that uses "green" fuel, or at least of any plans to develop a "green" aviation fuel?
My mum's moving abroad later on this year, (Southern Spain) & with 2 young kids, long coach/car journeys are not really an option, so, as much as it grates, I'll have to fly to go & visit.
I'd like to know how I can reduce my carbon footprint, I've already decided to take longer, but fewer trips, so I won't be flying as often, but if I could find a more environmentally friendly way to fly (if such a possibility exists) that would help a lot.
Also, I know it's not money saving, apologies if I shouldn't have posted it here.
Thanks for any help

it's not flying, but do look at https://www.seat61.com for really helpful information and encouragement on how to travel without flying. i'm not sure but i think that finding alternatives to airline fuel are a long way off. also short haul flights really are worst as they use a lot of fuel taking off and landing."The Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed" - Ghandi0

Depends on where you're travelling from, but kids do love trains, and if you book far enough in advance and go on quieter days i'm sure it could be quite reasonable.Sleeper train overnight to London perhaps? Add up the time spent waiting, security checks etc. for air travel, and it might be nice to sit and relax and be on your way minutes after reaching the station.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

If you have to fly, you can carbon offset your journey. There's a few places that do it, but here's 2 of them

I love travelling by train, so was really thrilled when, as an employee of National Rail Enquiries I got an opportunity to travel on a sleeper. All I can say is, unless it'san absolutely fantastic offer then just don't do it! (Especially if you suffer from claustophobia and /or are over 5'6" in height).
Then again things could have improved since 20000
