Minimum wage + Tax Credits For NRP calculation?

Hi
My ex has told me that following his business collapse, impending bankruptcy (not sure how true this is) that he will be taking an employed job on minimum wage. He told me there was no point in earning more as tax credits would top them up. He lives with his partner who has two children and has our children once a week. His partner works part time.
OK the question is - what would be taken into consideration as income? His employed job alone or his tax credit claim too? He hasn't paid for a while and has some arrears. Also I assume he is still self employed and will still have to do a tax return next year.

Advice appreciated!

They should take into account any earned income, all child tax credits they receive and either a) all working tax credits the family MAY receive if he earns more than his partner, b)half if they earn the same and c) none if he earns less.
