CRB question

I recently applied for a job with a care agency, I've checked my bank statement today and it shows they've taken money from my account to do the CRB check 3 weeks ago, I've heard nothing back from the agency so I assume they don't want me.
Am I entitled to have the CRB check sent to me? Should they of sent it on to me? I'm struggling with the thought of having to pay £36 for every agency I sign up for as I'm on a very low income right now.
If I call up despite not getting the job should they send the CRB check on to me so that I can use it in other jobs?

You will get a copy sent to you aswell, or that is what happened to me.
Always good to have it as it is valid for 3 months i think. most places dont charge you for doing it.0 -
If it's an Enhanced CRB you might find other employers won't be satisfied with seeing your copy - and you aren't allowed to distribute copies to any employers. A CRB check is only valid for the day it's produced, and the Enhanced CRB has a separate document which will be sent to the employer letting them know if there are any 'queries' such as charges which didn't end up with prosecutions or on going investigations on your record. You won't receive a copy of this (if there is one on your record, which is unlikely) as it could compromise an ongoing Police investigation. You should get a copy of your CRB sent to your home address though.
3 weeks isn't very long, they can easily take 6-8 weeks and I've got one currently outstanding from November last year for one applicant I'm dealing with. She moved around a lot and spent some time in Spain, which I expect is what has held things up.Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
Thanks for the quick replies.
I've seen jobs advertised for care which say I must hold a valid CRB check, If they are only ok for that day how can I get one done so that I've got a CRB check to give in this situation? - I had the understanding that I couldn't actually get a CRB check done myself, someone else had to do it.
Sorry if they are really simple explanations, I'm quite new to this whole agency thing and I'm getting quite confused over it all.0 -
Hi , my advice is firstly, if they make you pay initially for the CRB to be done they HAVE to re-imburse you whether they offer employment or not. But personally, I would never pay myself for a CRB to be done unless I had a definate offer of employment.
Cheers.

I know, I do try to get interviews with places I don't need to pay for but this was advised by the job centre and quite frankly if you don't do what they want they'll stop my only income which leaves me in even more of a mess
I feel like I'm trying to do a job that not many people want to do yet still finding it so hard for someone to give me a break and take me on.
I wasn't aware they had to pay you back though, She said it'll be reimbursed after 4 weeks of employment with them but thats obviously if you actually get a job with them, Maybe I should wait a bit longer?0 -
Many employers do require a CRB check to be done, but the care agency industry is notorious for making the candidate pay themselves. If it was a position that the jobcentre recommended then you should have got them to pay the fee for you ( they usually try to get people to pay then claim it back) but if you say you are willing to apply but cant afford the fee then they WILL pay, and can't penalise anyone for not "shelling out" money they can't afford.0

This is a new one on me. I've never heard of anyone having to pay for their own Disclosure check and if fact thought it had to be the prospective employer .In my experience the check is only applied for once a provisional job offer is made. My OH works in the care sector and has never paid for his own check. You will get your own copy but a seperate one is needed for any new job or voluntary position.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

It's becoming increasingly common as care work is always around hence the job centres and such mean agencies are receiving far more applications than normal, many of whom arent suited or lie about their records and the agencies can't afford to pay for each failed check therefore they are passing this cost on.
I would always suggest pushing for reimbursement with your first paycheque or after 6 months of service or such so you only pay if you dont stay a while.0 -

Hey girl,
I also just recently applied for a care job and went for the job interview last week and also had to part with the £36 which is sooo much in this current economy! I actually had 2 previous CRB's and when I asked the lady if i could use them she said that they are not transferrable hence everyone has to pay for a new one.
Luckily this week i got an email saying i passed the interview...but still have to wait as my CRB and written references have to be sent to them. I honestly hope it doesn't take too long because i'm super broke now.
Maybe call them up to find out the situation, it's probably the case that they're waiting on your CRB/references before they can give you a response.
Wishing you all the best0
