i use the steam wallpaper stripper on my freezer, it does it in no time and is safer than a hairdryer lol!

Unfortunately, I'll not be able to take my steam cleaner over as I don't drive and it's heavy to carry but I am taking a cheap bottle of coke for the loo.

    Thanks JoJo

Fill up a small plastic pop bottle with hot water and edge it in there to start the ice melting.

My mom's is a mess but we all ignore it for a quiet life.

Haven't tried this one personally, but how about spraying the ice with a solution of Very hot SALTY water? Lots of salt and very hot water might work.

Well done for doing this. x

It's not so much the mess, it's the filth that bothers me. I won't tell you what the floor in the loo and the bathroom was like:eek:. Absolutely gross.

For the freezer i use the hairdryer method with a steel for tapping at awkward parts. In the bottom i put a large pan with a freshly boiled kettle full of water inside. This helps the lower part to defrost whilst the higher shelves are attacked with the hairdryer.

I can get the huge six shelf freezer emptied defrosted and all the food back inside again in just over an hour.

    Good luck.

i put a bowl of freshly boiled water in the bottom of the freezer so the steam defrosts it quicker. NEVER use a knife, hammer or screwdriver etc i burst a pipe once doing that and all the gas escaped and rendered the freezer useless.

    Hi payless,

Here's an old tip for cleaning the toilet pan. Sounds daft, but honestly - it really works.

Put two denture cleaning tablets down the pan last thing at night. Next day flush as normal and the pan - below the water line at least - will be gleaming!

In a REALLY bad pan, you might have to do this twice.

    Hope this helps.

In the past I have used a hot water bottle (just the rubber part, not the fluffy cover too!) partly filled with boiling water and then left inside the freezer - it does help to thaw it quicker. Now I have a handheld dteamer, so I use that.

Cleaning the loo - Kim and Aggie have suggested using a pumice stone to get rid of limescale - it's softer than the enamel so it doesn't scratch the pan. Cola is good, too.

...and my MiL insisted on carpet in her bathroom & loo _pale_

I put bowls of hot water in the freezer for half an hour or so before I get going with the hairdryer when I'm defrosting.

Hope the clear up goes well, it's a thankless task - I can't go to MiL's anymore, I get blamed for things I could not possibly have done so it's easier for her if I just stay away. Puts more onto DH & BiL - and BiL's extremely popular wife aka 'golden girl' ;) - but not much I can do about that. Poor SiL! ;)
