Hit'n'run carpark damage

I rarely if ever go shopping at busy times of the day when I know the carparks are going to be packed out. But on Saturday I had no choice in the matter, as I needed to shop for a BBQ/party.
Parked up at Tesco's and wandered into the shop with the GF, did our shopping and walked back to the car only to find a note telling me that someone else had hit my car and the make/reg was written down along with a contact number for a "witness" if I need one.
My car has some very minor front end damage from an incident involving snow and a fence, so this claim would result in a new bumper for sure.
On one hand I feel guilty because if they hadnt driven off id probably have not bothered about it due to the existing damage, but on the other hand I think people who DO drive off after damaging your property, deserve all they get!!!
I found the car responsible parked a few cars down opposite me and it's easy to see that the person cannot park at all (parked nose first diagonally in the space), id be surprised if this is the first time they've done this!
(and yes I was tempted to go kick every body panel in)
The way they park tells me they drive this car as though its a small hatch back, they just point the nose into the space rather than swinging out the opposite way in order to line up the rear end better, so they risk hitting both cars as they plough on in!
I feel it's my duty to claim against this person for his/her ignorance in the hope that they'll a) learn to drive b) get a smaller car c) be more careful in future!
I really hate people like this!!!

What extra damage if any was done to your car?0

Scratched down to plastic and the bending has caused an existing small patch of damage to lose even more paint.
Insurance would replace the bumper for such damage anyway because smart repairs devalue the car as they're not considered to be "as new" repairs.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Didn't you sit and wait for them to come back to their car?
I would have, just to see the look on their face!
Cheeky sods.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
As someone who always parks my vehicles as far away from other cars as I can, resulting in long walks to the entrance, then I would certainly be claiming.
However if they had left their details I would have offered the choice of paying towards the repair, maybe 50%.
As they didnt then it is insurance all the way.0 -

Yeah im the same, I actually prefer to go when it's quiet and then park over two spaces.
I find it hard to believe that people can be so incompetent behind the wheel!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I had the same happen to me in a multi storey car park and someone left me a note with the drivers details. The damage was only minor and I tried to contact them to sort it amicably but unfortunately you find that people that are willing to just drive off in the first place arent the amicable sort, so I put a claim in through their insurance and got the damage sorted at their expense.0

Called the witness, apparently the driver was 70+ driving a large estate car, totally misjudged the space, hit my car, reversed, drove further down, did the same to another car!!!, drove all round the carpark and pulled into the space opposite me!!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I watched an old bloke hit a car once in an awful attempt to parallel park in a one way street. He hit the car 2 or 3 times before giving up, driving round the block and parking up the road.
I was waiting to pick up my Mum and hoped to speak to the car owner in person, but had to go. left a note though.0 -
I too am another shopper that dreads going during the day. I can normally be found parke din the furthest possible space from the shop very late at night :rotfl:
I had to go to Tesco on Saturday for BBQ supplies (Didn't everyone?). As I was walking back to my car I heard a big thud. A women in a people carrier had opened her door smack bang onto the car next to her. Not only that, but as she was climbing in she kept putting weight on the door so it made a massive dent on the other car. There is no way she could have not realised what she was doing. She then proceeded to drive off.
I got the cars numberplate and put a note on the victims car. Just as I was putting it on the windscreen the owner came over to me. Explained what I had seen and left them my number as a witness. I really hope they claim against her! This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.0 -

Damn straight! these idiots need to be punished, if they've done it once they've done it many times in the past!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
