we use a 6oz mix for each half ( with the proper tin that is). You have to cook the halves seperartely as the top cooks quicker than the bottom:undecided

The giant cookie monster was made from the giant cupcake tin:D

i use 250g each of caster suger,s r flour and marg/butter, 3 eggs , 2 tble spoons milk,1/2 teaspoon of vanilla essence,1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, for the base mould and same again for the top mould then just trim the top mould down a bit

  • Ooo I haven't gone through all 11 pages but I LOVE cakes and theres some amazing cakes I've seen posted in here. I love making them although im not really great, but dont seem to enjoy eating them as much. http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/photo.php?pid=4925037&id=554833293&ref=fbx_album http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/photo.php?pid=4925038&id=554833293&ref=fbx_album&fbid=350726128293 << That was my first attempt at a rainbow cake, I made it for my sons 3rd birthday and was really pleased with the end result. Its my favourite that i've done. The camera on that phone was pants so the colours dont look all that but they where bright. I would love to do a course but the nearest two are 11 and 18 miles away, and due to childrens schooling and other halfs work its not possible for me to do it.I guess I will just practise for fun.

Here is one i did a couple of years ago with my DS for his school project, he had to create a Motte and Baileys castle and he wanted to do it in a cake form rather than cardboard etc...sorry for the quailty of the pics.

Wow - this thread is getting nice and busy now and filled with very impressive cakes.. I have to say I've caught the bug BIG time... I look looking at cakes and trying to disect them into how they can be made... I am obsessed with Cake boss and Ace of Cakes on sky and I have even started to dream about cakes :)

I even went to see a psychic yesterday and she asked what course I would be doing in January (I'd not said anything before).... I told her that I've been looking at a cake decorating course and she said that I HAD to do it as it was a determining factor in my job role going forward!! In fact she said I would come to rely on it next year when I go on maternity leave  Now for all the non believers out there - please dont spoil the dream :)

I've made the below cakes over the past couple of weeks (I had 3 to do last week!) and I've just been caught up in the giant cupcake cake fever and ordered one off ebay for a cake I have to do in 2 weeks

My work mates are just loving the b**bs :)

Does anyone else worry about what to charge?? All of my cakes were 10 inch sponges and I charged £25 / each - mates rates and I thought that was cheap but they thought that was too cheap - in fact the iggle piggle orderer gave me £30 and refused to take any change.
