Are catalogue misprints binding?

Hi Folks
Quick question: There is an obvious price misprint in the new Argos Catalogue, is this legally binding and must they sell at this price??
Page 879, even though under the general heading Apple iPod Shuffle, above the actual catalogue number it says Apple iPod 512KB Nano - £49.99
Apple iPod 1GB Nano - £69.99
Nano being the operative word.

well there is no iPod Nano 512mb anyway, so i doubt they will honour it.
From a legal perspective they are under no obligation to sell at the advertised price, as any such advertisement is an 'invitation to treat', and forms no part of any contractual obligation.
If it is under the heading iPod Shuffle, then it isn't really misleading either.0 -
thanks for the reply
Thought it was a bit of a long shot but no harm in asking ?0 -
just to add on to what cooper has already told you...
offers in the catalogue are an invitation to buy, and do not represent a contract. there is small print in the book that states that all offers are subject to availability blah blah blah.
however, we cannot legally misdescribe/mis-sell an item, and to this end there are several steps we must take to rectify such mistakes.
firstly, a 'bulletin' will be read out at the till, or if you phone the store to make an enquiry. this will bring your attention to all sorts of stuff, from incorrect specs in the cat, to features which have changed, that you might receive a substitute etc
we also have to place stickers over incorrect details in the in-store catalogues, with the correct details on. these (i think) are also updated on line..although i could be worng about that)
in the case of some severe c*ck ups by the (rather useless) proof reading (ahem cough  ) department, posters are printed and put up in store to raise awareness of the errors.
hope this clarifies things a bit :beer:know thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
Even if they haven't spotted the error previously they are still entitled to "withdraw it from sale". Hope this helps.0

i think it states in the terms and conditions that they cannt be held against catolge prices.
also i know the phone service makes a point of 'price in store on day of purchase' so they pretty much cover their back on that0
