Wraparound prescription sunglasses?

I am very light sensitive due to various eye problems. I currently wear prescription reaction lenses and a basball cap when outside. However, this is not enough for me and I still get headaches.

Someone suggested trying different hats and someone else said wrap around sunglasses. Is it possible to get any prescriptions ones? if so, where and how much?

Thank you.

    Hi there,

My hubby has wrap-around prescription sunnies, I think they are Oakley ones. His prescription is very strong though, and he was lucky to be able to get the wrap-arounds made. I think it was because the optician was prepared to take a risk for him, because we've been going there for a while. However, if your prescription is not so strong, it would be easier.

You need to go to an optician that sells wrap around sunnies that you like - this may take a bit of searching. I'd suggest independent opticians are worth a look (we use David H Myers in Leeds city centre, if you're anywhere near Leeds). Then, have an eye test / give them your prescription and see if the wrap around lenses can be made to that prescription.

Another alternative you mght consider is to look for some specific wrap around sports glasses. Adidas make them. Hubby has a pair, again from the opticians mentioned above. The lenses in these glasses are 'normal' (and interchangeable - different colours etc), but they have prescription inserts made to your prescription. Note - having reread your post, this probably isn't what you're after if you want to wear them all the time, but could be worth a look.

Both options are expensive (eg a couple of hundred quid at least for the adidas sports glasses), but perhaps worth it if you will use them a lot and your prescription rarely changes.

    HTH

Most opticians do the "Wimbledon" range. It's very good value at £99 for a presciption pair. They may not do wraparound ones but the ones I have big chunky arms and block out nearly all the light. If you are on a budget I would recommend them. I get loads of compliments and people think they are designer!

Just come across this thread, My OH has decided she wants some wraparound prescription glasses and there are several places that do them. Some glasses come with the prescription lens as a insert there are a few that have a curved lens.

A couple of places for you to look if you haven't already got a pair Extreme Eyeware they do online sales and have a place in sunny Yorkshire. Or try Optilabs also online or a place at Croydon

Asda don't do prescription wraparound sunglasses for some reason. When we looked they had non prescription wraparounds but suggested trying elsewhere if they needed to be prescription glasses
