has anyone got one of these and are they any good? i don't want to part with £ 10 and it turn out to be rubbish. Or has anyone found a reasonably priced alternative - i want something to make veggies and stuff more appealing to my 5 year old

I've got one and they are good if you know how to use them! Booklet explains all.
Mine isn't JML, I bought it at Debenhams from an external company that were doing a demonstration there. I'm in work at the mo, when I get home this evening I'll have a look at the make and see if there is a website you can go on.
I remember seeing the JML one in woolies and thinking that it didn't look as good as the one I had and didn't have as many slicing attachments.
Catch you later

Is it the V Slicer type thing? If so, I have one and they're fine, well worth a tenner. Can be a bit awkward on thicker things (e.g Julienne carrots, parsnips), but once you get a rhythm going, they're fab.
Only thing, they aren't dishwasher friendly:dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood :dance:0 -
Hi again
The one I've got is a Borner 'V' Food Processor.
It's a bit more expensive but it is excellent quality, check it out on

I hope the link worked! If not check out the selkin.co.uk website

This is known mainly as the V Slicer when it was launched on the shopping channels, but there is a name for this type of device which I can't recall at the moment.
Some people dislike them because they have cut themselves with the thing - but these are the same people that don't use it properly - you can cut yourself with a knife, that doesn't mean don't buy one!
In general, to make good use of one, keep the blade that you are likely to use the most inside the V-slicer and put the rest away. Furthermore, the gimmicky free gifts they send you like the curly wurly slicer, also put away.
It takes some getting used to especially when you go from soft vegetables to hard vegetables such as potatoes. The trick is to not put so much pressure downwards onto the blades when slicing.
The V-slicer is very good for sliced vegetables, e.g. tomatoes. There are some better alternatives out there if you wish to cube vegetables as with a V-slicer you have to cut the vegetables one way before slicing the other way.

I have the Borner V as well. It's the best kitchen gadget I possess and well worth the price tag. I think you may find that, as in all things, you get what you pay for. Mine is around 15 years old and still razor sharp. I mostly use it for making coleslaw (cabbage, carrots & onions) and can make a huge mixing bowl full in about 5 mins - brilliant!!I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
I picked one up from a charity stall for 50p, might be worth it having a look at them.
