At Last I feel like a real DFW

Things have changed slightly for us. Yesterday at breakfast I was talking to my husband about money and he said that he is afraid that the timing belt on his van is about to go and if it does then the van will be a write-off. We are still paying off the loan for it:eek: He bought the workshop manual from ebay but it says in there not to attempt it under any circumstances, so he has booked it into the garage today. Estimated cost £380+VAT. This comes after a very difficult month. As some of you will know and some not, we have recently moved and our move could not pay off our debts. Also our moving costs and settling in costs came to £2900, which I have completely managed to pay off this month. However, this is the last straw (also this morning received car insurance bill of £206, expected but not welcome). Anyway, for once he was interested in money, he normally thinks Im obsessed by it and I showed him all my spreadsheets totalling the debt (17,390) and the budgets etc, and he was quite impressed. He said that we owed a lot less than he thought as we have no longer an overdraft and only the van loan which finishes next year. He said that he has been feeling that no matter how much overtime he does he has felt that the money disappears into a black hole and its never enough and it is never effective.
Well, my desire to be debtfree welled up and I suggested to him that before we do any work on this old house, that we pay off all our debts first, and he was agreeable to it. He reckons that if we try hard to pay off £1500 a month, it will take a year. I dont know if we can do this but knowing OH, he will put in more overtime now. He really wants the house done, but he hates the debt as much as I do. So now ive really got his backing with the 0% application s, (which really got his back up before because he said they were ruining his credit score) because he can see how Ive got the debt down and kept it from increasing even though we moved because of all the low interest rates. So I havent really got a problem, but just thought id let you know we're going to throw everything we've got at this debt now :j and it makes me feel like im more entitled to post on here. I wouldnt say it was quite a lightbulb momentbut we have strengthened our resolve and I'll report how we are getting on from time to time. :T
