Hi all
I created a zip file some time ago and just keep adding files into it as necessary.
Today, I went to retrieve a file from it to find I can't open the zip file.
I get the error message:-
"Can not open
\My Files.zip" as archive.
It was created with 7-zip and I'm using the same to try and open it.
Anyone any ideas why it won't open and if it's recoverable?
Cheers

what version of windows are you using?
is it possible to right click, open with (or the nearest equivalent) and chose the windows compressed file extractor (or something to that effect)? ive never had a problem with 7zip unable to open a zip file, but i do think once zip files reach a certain size, they do become a bit unwieldy.0 -
I'm using XP Home edition and the zip file is 1.11GB.
I tried right-click and open with Compressed (Zipped) folders option.
That gives a different error message of "The Compressed (zipped) folder is invalid or corrupted".
I'm starting to get the nasty feeling the zip file is dead.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Can't see the trial download and without it, it will only scan and not repair the file.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

apparently winrar has the ability to repair zip files, though ive never needed to use it, i always use rar files anyway, failing that, you might want to look for an open source repair tool, as i think all repair tools for windows require you to pay.
you can try and hopefully get lucky

http://www.diskinternals.com/zip-repair/
or if you want to try and get cygwin with the zip commandzip -FF d:\file-you-want-to-extract.zip
not very reliable but you might get some files back0 -
Just trying the recovery toolbox for zip files now - I'll let you know how I get on.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Well, the Recovery toolbox will only do the scan unless you buy it, but the DiskInternals version did the job very well. Some stuff is out of sync but that's not a hard job to sort out.
Think I'll split the archive next time to drop the file size.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
