You won't pay a penny. Just remember to cancel it, as soon as you have downloaded it onto cd. This was a sun offer a week or so ago and it works. Give it a go.

  • Thanks! Just been there and d/loaded Homer's Illiad & Odyssey (£48.99) + Jung: A Very Short Introduction (£8.24) - That's £57.23 worth of audiobooks for absolutely nothing!

They have a very good selection and I recomend it to everyone.

can i have more info please. how do you cancel you membership once you have downloaded you 2 books, my daughter would love A Series of Unfortunte Events.

May be 6 of us join and we can get the full series of 12 and swap with each other
All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.
  • You can just log in as normal, and go to 'My Account' and click cancel. Admittedly I haven't cancelled mine yet as I'm still burning the Audiobooks to CD, and I'm not sure if the files become unavailable after you cancel.

Important! You have to download their own software (it's not very large), and play it from there or burn to CD - there is also the option of putting it straight onto an I pod or similar but I've heard that some people are having problems with their MP3 players, it's only guarunteed to work on an Ipod. So I would say be prepared to burn to disc, baring in mind a 3 hr Audiobook can take 6 or 7 discs!

Baring in mind that is utter twaddle, a 700MB/80Min cd can hold about 1 hour 17 mins of audio book, so a 3 hour book would only take 3 cds (2 and a bit) not 6 or 7!
The unabridged Chronicles of Narnia Books only take 4 or 5 disks and some of them are nearly 6 hours long!
    (6 cd = about 7hours 45, and 7 cd = 9 hours af audio.)
  • Someone's a bit touchy, why so aggressive? If it makes you sleep better at night, then the reason my 3hr audio book took 6 discs is because I opted for the highest quality - which, admittedly, I wouldn't have done if I had known that I would have to burn it to disc.

Its probably MP3? wich means it will all fit on a cd, but you will need a cd mp3 player not an ordinary one. It would take forever to download an audio file.
  • It's not mp3, although they used to advertise it as such. Files are actually downloaded in the proprietary Audible format (.aa) which is a pain as most players / software don't recognise this filetype. On the plus side, you can stop these files and resume where you left off, but when I was a member I couldn't play them on my mp3 player so ended up just deleting them once I'd heard them once.

[edit] remembering back, it was also really annoying to burn to CDs as the files seemed to be split into CD sized chunks with little thought for continuity - with the result that there were some really random start/end points.

When you cancel you get this info:
Your AudibleListener® Membership has been cancelled. At the end of this billing period, you will no longer be able to access AudibleListener member features and prices, but will still be able to download any audio programmes you have previously purchased. An email will be sent to your account to confirm your cancellation.
