I think the biggest problem is that I start lots of things and don't finish them, always seem to be jumping from one job to the next and never actually achieving anything. I just feel fragmented - if that makes any sense?
Are you my long lost genetic twin? LOL I am precisely the same
If I had a penny for each job I half did, Id pay someone to do them all for me LOL HOWEVER, heres my list of things to do today and you can see how small they are
1. Make curry & put in slow cooker DONE
2. make bed in spare room DONE
3. write letter to solicitors
4. tidy computer table & wipe down DONE
5. hang washing out from machine
6. wash up
7. clean sink
8. clean kitchen floor
9. lay masking tape on floor in kitchen ready to paint skirt boards later
10. swiff floor in spare room
11. hang dry washing in wardrobe
12 sort out green met books pack & label
13. phone tesco re green points.
14 measure up bathroom
Now I dont mind if some fall over till tomorrow, but the key is some of these tasks are REALLY small eg clean sink. If you break the tasks down to very small ( ie not CLEAN HOUSE
) then you feel like you have achieved something when you strike them off
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Hey Cat! My little ones are having a nap now, so I am off to do the bathroom - you found those library books yet???????????!!!!!!!!!!!
And I really do know how you feel! We have a 2-bed place, 4 girls in it and another babe on the way.
Fortunately, the eldest is 15 and has decided last week she wants to live at Nans (my step-daughter, so I am not all that worried really) as she really believes the grass is greener. Good luck to her!
And the house is horrendous! My kids have no idea on how to tidy up after themselves. Its full of toys (well, it feels like it!) and I would kill for a dining room!!!
I got really teary at the weekend as my mother is looking to buy herself a small house after a break-up, and her "small" place is bigger than what we have now!
But, we cannot buy/move as we are in debt too much and that is no-ones fault but our own really. But, you have to get on with what you have! But it does get you down though, doesn't it??
And making a start - the bathroom is calling................. (no, it really is, worried what might be living in it........) LOL!!0 -
Hiya Cat64, I just wanted you to know that this thread has really got me thinking. We're, slowly, sorting out our finances but our house is a pigsty. Not so much dirty as so untidy. Reading your thread and the replys has made me decide to do something about it.
I love Charlotte's idea and, if you don't mind, i'm going to join in. Today i'm going to move all the stuff that's in the wrong room into the right room at least! First step, all the stuff piled in my bedroom for the charity shop is going to go to the.....charity shop! It's been there 6 months!
Hope you find those library books! Good luck and big hugs to you!January budget

take one job at a time- can children and partner help more around house? - can somone babysit children and take them say to cinema etc one night so you and partner take that night to sort out finances- forget the housework for that night. if not do it one step at a time- get all the paperwork and divide into piles- one for gas, one for electricity etc and then file one each day. if too much to sort into piles take say 10-20 pieces (or whatever) until it's done- do it when you're watching telly so it doesn't become a chore.I think the biggest problem is that I start lots of things and don't finish them... Husband works full time and I work 2 evenings and most Sundays, we never seem to have a minute to sit down and work on our finances as after we've had our evening meal and youngest child is in bed we are both too exhausted and stressed out, and I know we'd end up arguing.0 -
OMG Charlotte where do you put them all?! I take my hat off to you I really do.
Ok, I've found my library books now (all except one), so I'll be off into town to take them back shortly.
Lynzpower - I'm really impressed by your list! That would keep me going for a week.:D
Unfortunately we don't have any family nearby to give us a hand, both my mum and OHs parents live several hours drive away, and neither are in good health.
Know what you mean Charlotte, my in-laws are rattling round like peas in a drum in their 4 bedroom detached house with 1 acre garden, you could fit our entire house into their garage!! Their airing cupboard is as big as our 3rd bedroom. Oh well.....

That was half an hour well spent! It sparkles!
Did find a spider, but got my 4yo old daughter to pick it up and take it outside (worded very carefully, so she doesn't know Mummy is scared!)
And with library books, they usually cap the amount owing, so it should be a fixed amount and they will probably charge you for the missing one though. But at least you found them and its a job ticked off! Going to walk into town? Will blow the cobwebs away! And will give you a better nights sleep and full of beans ready for tomorrow! (Probably!)0 -
After reading some of this it sounds like you can take some positive steps
Housework is boring, I hate it with a passion, unfortunately it has to be done.
Maybe try some/none/all of the following
1. You definately need a routine, ie wednesdays is for hoovering, or ironing or whatever, put some music on and plow through it, i do this and it makes it a lot better.
Draw up some sort of work list for each day, tick off each item as its done, that way you can see your accomplishment.
2. Get the kids involved, give them a chore list, think of some cheap ways to treat them if they keep the room tidy, if they have a good reason o do this, and they do it, then that will save you loads of time.
3. Have a mass clear out, when I was young, the biggest reason was having too much junk, throw out all the broken toys, ebay the good stuff, leave only the things they would be really upset about.
4. Clear tidy house/room means clearer mind, over the past year i have gradually whittled down the none essentials, now my room is really tidy, not perfect, but less stuff is so much easier to manage.
5. Dont put off jobs, this is the worst thing to do, thinking about a chore only leads to negative thoughts, get it done
im sure someone will be along to give you more ideas, but trust me, the tidier your place, may mean some work but you will feel better for it
