Ok, so we're moving to a cheaper flat to get this debt paid off even quicker but the fridge/freezer has only one of those little shelf freezers at the top - enough for an ice cube tray and not much else.
What other ways do people know of preserving things? I used to make a lot in bulk and freeze (which we're eating up now - yum!) and can't do that now. We don't have the space for a separate freezer in the flat and am starting to panic!

Its an hard one, how about when we talk about a menu planner, can you plan in veggies which keep without the fridge.
Is it easy for you to go shopping more oftern than once a week but only buy a few things that you need for the next few days?0 -
I live in a studio flat and I bought second hand a really small freezer which is the perfect size, here is a piccy!
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f176/purpleprincesscat/freezer.jpg I wonder if you have enough space for one of these? Mine just sits on the floor!!! :rotfl:

I think it's going to have to be a couple of food shops a week - gah!
Love your mini freezer Purpleprincess! Will keep my eyes peeled for something similar - God, even if it has to go in the living room it'd be ok!0 -
I have cancelled my organic order for the time being but what I normally do is get the veg in for the week, decide what's not going to last a whole week and deal with those first, then cook some more a couple of days later and keep it in the fridge. Our freezer is very underused (apart from for milk.)
eg I would cook spinach straight away and use it maybe for pizzas, I'd have salad stuff early in the week but squashes and potatoes keep well and carrots will last most of the week. Courgettes, peppers, mushrooms etc I might cook to reheat a day or 2 later as a pasta sauce or in a chilli. If you can get maybe 2 portions of chilli/curry/pasta sauce in the freezer part, that will last even longer.
I don't think you'll need to do 2 shops every week, although I would need to get milk through the week if I didn't have a freezer.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
flower_chops if you had to have it in the living room you could bung a cloth over it and call it a table.0

I used to have one like that PurplePrincess...it sat on top of the fridge. It was small but you can still get quite a lot in there.
flower-chops - one of my friends has a fridge/freezer in her spare room, which is where I sleep when I'm there. It's quite an old one and a wee bit noisy, but I find I get used to it very quickly. If you had a freezer in your sitting room or hall you would get used to it in no time at all. If you're not on https://www.freecycle.net I'd definitely recommend joining up - you may well get one for free (though you are asked to give something before you receive).

:rotfl: I'd put some ornaments on there too although they might wobble off!
It's ever so strange moving to a place you've only viewed once as I can't remember how much room there is there...I do think we need one though and will be keeping my eyes peeled on Frecycle for one. Am already getting a washing machine from there!0
